Position Summary

    • Under general direction, protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevents illness and injury. Alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment. Advocates for patients and their families. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.
    • Provide fact-to-face physical assessments to hospice patients to assist the Hospice Medical Director in determining each patient’s continuing eligibility for the hospice program. Evaluates, and interprets lab results.

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities

  • Provides medical services to outpatients and inpatients of Mary Greeley Medical Center including caring for children and adolescents (within scope of practice) and adults in collaboration with a physician.
  • Assists in development and review of guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with the Coordination of Care of patients receiving nursing care through Home Health Agencies, Nursing Care Facilities and Durable Medical Equipment Agencies.
  • Ability to function within a variety of care locations.
  • Provides consultation, collaboration, marketing and education to community-based agencies.
  • Other duties outside of wound care as assigned
  • Functions as a member of the Mary Greeley interdisciplinary Team.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire date if hired after January 1, 2014.
  • Master's degree - Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
  • Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing.

  • Professional certification in nursing specialty.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Proficient in communication skills.
  • Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups.
  • Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives.
  • Ability to read and understand chart documentation.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years practice as an ARNP.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and implement regulations and Federal requirements.
  • Licensed as an Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Iowa.
  • Possession of a current valid driver's license and must maintain eligibility for coverage under Mary Greely Medical Center's insurance policy.

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as: infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts, physical injury/verbal abuse from an out-of-control patient.   • Listens to sound of running equipment to detect faulty operations and/or patient safety.

  • Ability to distinguish tactile sensation for purposes of operating equipment and assessing patients.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work is exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
