Job Description
The Quality Control Lead is responsible for leading the day-to-day quality workflow and activities for a designated plant and shift to achieve goals in quality, cost, delivery, and compliance. This role is responsible for maintaining the quality systems in place in the designated production area including the gauging, equipment, and processes. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams and department leaders to address concerns and issues and acts as a coach and technical advisor to production operators/leads who perform inspection and product release activities. This role trains and supports Quality Control Technicians, plans and assists with inspection coverage, and focuses on systemic quality performance and process conformance. This role covers absenteeism for Quality Control Technicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Maintain the quality control systems in the designated production area including the gauging, equipment, and processes
- Train Quality Control Technicians on inspection methods, QCI documentation, and escalation procedures and maintain training/skills matrix for area/shift
- Validate and audit critical products and processes as required by the control plan or as needed due to emerging risk
- Confirm or certify operations team members competency to perform inspections per the control plan
- Review and file production order paperwork for quality records
- Manage non-conforming material process including disposition, investigations, scrap transactions, red-tag logs and area maintenance and ensure compliance with the NCM procedure
- Perform investigations or studies to understand variance of features of machined parts
- Conduct closed loop corrective and preventative actions either independently or with assistance from supervisor or quality engineering team
- Coordinate with Operations to determine daily and weekly inspection coverage needs and report gaps to the Senior QC Supervisor
- Ensure robust shift-to-shift communication, including handoff of quality concerns, gauge issues, and inspection results
- Perform Measurement System Analyses (MSAs) for key gauges and inspection methods, including planning and data review
- Coordinate and conduct gauge setups, confirm correct gaging is available at the point of use, and evaluate gauge readiness either through daily routines or audits
- Interact with the Gauge Crib to check gauges in/out and report damaged or questionable equipment
- Complete run charts, control charts, etc. as required by the control plan in the designated area
- Conduct scheduled product and process audits as required by the product/process audit procedure utilizing the required forms and reaction process
- Be trained and competent on all inspection methods and measurement tools specified in the control plan
- Other duties as assigned

WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise and hazards such as electrical shock or gases. Some outside assignments could involve exposure to adverse weather conditions. Adequate hearing protection is required for 85 decibels and above.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This role is not responsible for management of personnel but has lead responsibilities for quality technicians as it relates to day-to-day escalations, training, following of policy, and first-level issue resolution.

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year of Quality Control Experience in high volume manufacturing environment preferably in automotive or similar industry
- Basic MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience using measurement techniques such as hand gauges (micrometers, bore gauges) and equipment (CMM).
- Knowledge of basic mathematics, i.e. decimals, fractions, algebra, and geometry and trigonometry
- Knowledge of production drawings, dimensional call outs, GD&T
- Experience or ability to learn statistical calculations for process control and gauge qualifications
