About This Position

Position:

Candidate will be responsible for supporting, facilitating and/or driving the problem solving process where opportunties for improvement may be reported, identified and verified to exist. The candidate may be required to work within or assemble and lead a cross fuctional team through problem solving process steps that assure continual improvements are realized.

The candidate will focus on direct and continous improvement activities centered around opportunities identified by internal & external parties that may include direct communication with customers, field service, internal/line & product audit results as well as action plan tasks and department identified support needs.

This position may require travel at times to witness and address repeated or significant product quality issues at the customer or end user facilities. These visits may require follow up support and facilitating field actions or follow up on open corrective actions and implementation status, validation of products or materials, continuous improvement support to reduce/remove process variations.

Scope (Quality & Environmental):

Quality:

  • Working with personnel throughout the organization to assure that open corrective actions are supported, actions planned and tracked to closure, including effectiveness of actions taken and improvements are sustained(closing the loop).
  • Cultivate a collaborative and supportive partnership with all appropriate parties built upon mutual respect, understanding and trust that achieves all interested parties expectations, goals and objectives.
  • Planning, defining, developing and revising supporting process and product related documentation to account for BCC/Customer/End User requirements.
  • Updating, improving and further enhancing internal documents such as procedures, travelers, firewalls and other defining or supporting documentation related to validation of components & products.
  • Working with CQE’s to assure that results of actions taken are captured and accounted for and reflected in both internal & external PPAP related documentation through revision and release.
  • Consolidating and standardizing documentation to assure that all identified critical, special and safety significant characteristics are identified, accounted for and effectively controlled in quality planning.
  • Working directly with CGE & SQE’s to develop and execute quality improvement/action plans when objectives are not achieved.
  • Participate in, oversee and facilitate cross functional team activities to accurately identify true root cause, determine impactful and effective counter measures to eliminate potential recurrence and ensuring their timely progress and implementation through closure.
  • Identifying, carrying out or overseeing containment activities to establish internal and external clean points.
  • Collecting, analyzing, reporting and presenting available data to support decision making.
  • Supporting/Leading cross functional teams through appropraite problem solving activities using appropriate tools, processes and ideaologies to identify and validate root cause and drive corrective actions required to eliminate the variation and prevent reccurence.
  • Identify, assign and track activities required to address open actions and tasks.
  • Supporting timely and effective responses to customer/supplier issued complaints & 8D’s.
  • Follow up reviews to verify the actions have been implemented are sustained and remain effective.
  • Identifying and applying the counter measures to all processes/products and lines where the issue may be encountered.
  • Monitor and report on progress and overall status to multiple levels within the organization.
  • This may include activities taken at the BCC facility, the customer manufacturing facility as well as dealer and field service locations maintaining units already in service.
  • Being a resource for the production floor to address product, process, equipment and tooling issues or concerns raised during production builds.
  • Monitoring and measuring BCC internal performance against internal customer and end user defined quality metrics/KPI’s. This may include customer or end user audits and product assessments.
  • Reporting status or providing updates for open/inprocess corrective actions. Driving A3 projects to closure once initiated. Gathering and populating evidence of data, planning, actions, results and outcomes.
  • Quality Assurance:

  • Monitoring and reporting internal performance metric results, both positive and negative trends should be highlighted especially where a drastic shift has taken place.
  • Review quality and appropriateness of the supporting documentation as well as verification of the results of the process.
  • Validate quality plan, monitoring and measurement tools and processes, materials and product certifications, equipment PM and performance.
  • Verify proper controls are in place to mitigate negative outcomes or account for the likelihood of detection should they occur.
  • Quality/Environmental Management Systems:

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 standard requirements assuring compliance where applicable.
  • Working understanding of ISO 14001 standard requirements assuring compliance where applicable.
  • Education & Experience Requirements (Quality):

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (engineering, quality management, manufacturing engineering).
  • Or

  • 3-5 or more years of experience in automotive related manufacturing quality roles beyond an inspector or technician level. Customer/Supplier quality engineer, quality testing, engineering positions.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes as an operator, line lead, assembler or related beneficial.
  • Experience reading drawings, BOM documents, engineering standards, technical specifications, standards, material specifications as well as a thorough understanding of GD&T.
  • Certifications (Quality):

  • CQE/CQA or CQP from ASQ/ISM preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
  • Necessary Skills (Quality)

    Required

  • Strong knowledge of quality and environmental standards ISO 9001 & ISO 14001
  • Demonstrated background using common problem-solving tools.
  • Strong statistical analysis background.
  • Proven complex problem-solving experience.
  • Highly effective root-cause analysis experience
  • Working with and presenting for all levels of company and customer organizations.
  • Strong demonstrated background in lean six sigma.
  • Ability to lead or work within a team to improve processes and product quality.
  • Strong computer/software skills
  • Highly adaptable to ERP, and design document control software navigation and organization.
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Highly organized, maintaining evidence for results of corrective actions, action plans, PPAP documents and revisions.
  • Experience in leading and supporting product, customer and process audits as well as follow up evaluation experience for any recorded findings, actions taken and verification of closure.
