Summary/Objective:

As part of a Mobile Crisis Program (MCP), the Clinical Supervisor performs the role of a MCP Clinician working within the community setting performing interventions designed to stabilize children, families, and adult individuals when they are in crisis. Additionally, the Supervisor provides clinical supervision to the MCP clinicians, agency interns, and/or other assigned clinical staff.

Mobile crisis services are provided to children and adults who are experiencing, or at imminent risk of experiencing, a behavioral health crisis. A behavioral health crisis includes instances in which a person cannot manage their primary psychiatric and/or substance use related symptoms without de-escalation or intervention. The mission is to deliver person-centered, trauma-informed, culturally linguistic competent services that are high quality, effective, and integrated community-based services promoting resilience, rehabilitation, and recovery. These services are available telephonically and face-to-face in the community and are aimed at providing immediate support and offer alternatives to hospitalization when appropriate.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides mobile and telephonic crisis response services throughout Jefferson and Lewis counties and delivers services in the least restrictive available setting.

2. Interacts with local emergency systems (e.g. 911, local crisis hotlines), hospitals, law enforcement, and certified Peer Advocates to include co-response in order to provide safe and coordinated crisis response.

3. Provides immediate, short-term clinical interventions to stabilize individuals, their families and/or caregivers in the home, community, office, and natural environments.

4. Employs flexible, person-centered interventions, calming techniques and models positive, soothing behaviors.

5. Evaluates and assesses the holistic needs of individuals and their family, including the predictors of safety risks in the home and community.

6. Utilizes effective clinical judgement utilizing evidence-based clinical tools (SBIRT, C-SSRS, PHQ-9, QPR) and safety plans as appropriate.

7. Assists recipients through the introduction and reinforcement of crisis management skills and identification of community resources and supports.

8. Coordinates with recipient’s current treatment provider(s) and other identified supports to resolve the current crisis and to aid in preventing future crises.

9. Works in consortium with the Crisis Case Manager to provide follow-up services and efforts to appropriately link and refer individual to support services within the community.

10. Values and protects the rights, privacy, and confidentiality of recipients, with the understanding that whenever necessary, contact will be made with collaterals who may have information to inform the assessment.

11. Collects data and maintains client records according to agency and standard guidelines.

12. Other duties as assigned to support the program objectives.

Additional Clinical Supervisor Responsibilities:

1. Provides regularly scheduled individual and/or group clinical supervision to MCP clinicians, case managers, interns, and other assigned clinical staff, in accordance with agency policy and regulatory requirements.

2. Ensures supervision meets licensing, credentialing, and internship requirements, as applicable.

3. Documents all supervision activities, including dates, duration, content, and clinical focus, in accordance with agency standards.

4. Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for risk assessment, safety planning, crisis intervention strategies, and clinical decision-making.

5. Monitors clinical practice, documentation quality, and adherence to program protocols and evidence-based practices.

6. Provides timely, constructive feedback regarding job performance, clinical skills, professional conduct, and areas for improvement.

7. Identifies performance concerns and collaborates with program leadership to address support needs, training gaps, or corrective action.

8. Contributes to formal employee performance evaluations by providing written input and supervisory observations.

9. Supports onboarding, orientation, and skill development of new clinical staff and interns assigned to the Mobile Crisis Program.

10. Promotes consistency in clinical approach, crisis response standards, and documentation practices across the team.

11. Escalates clinical, ethical, or performance concerns to appropriate leadership in a timely and professional manner.

12. Assists program leadership with maintaining clinical coverage, supervisory continuity, and staff support during high-acuity periods or staff absences.

Work Environment:

Works in a professional office and clinical environment including the agency’s primary clinic locations, community-based program sites, and administrative offices. The role requires regular interaction with clinical leadership, program managers, clinical staff, interns, and external partners.

The position also includes work in community settings while responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises. These environments may be unpredictable and require the ability to assess situations quickly, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and ensure personal and client safety.

This position operates in a fast-paced, complex human services environment requiring adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. The role involves extended periods of sitting and computer use, participation in meetings, and occasional physical movement throughout program sites.

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of related office equipment including personal computers and printers, audio-visual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, etc.

Physical Demands: This role is primarily sedentary and requires extended periods of sitting, frequent use of a computer and telephone, and the ability to communicate effectively in person and through electronic means. The role also requires occasional standing/walking and travel between program sites and community meetings. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This position is full-time and requires participation in an on-call rotation schedule. The on-call work involves:

· On-call shifts are scheduled for 24- hour periods, with a rotating cycle that ensures fair and equal distribution among team members.

· 24-hour on-call shift operated on a “ready and wait” basis. Staff are expected to be available if needed but not actively working for the entire 24-hour period.

· During your on-call rotation, the ability to respond to calls or emergencies is expected.

· It is team-oriented coverage and is designed to maintain consistent support while respecting work-life balance.

· Flexibility is appreciated to help accommodate the rotation and ensure smooth operations.

· The rotation is planned to allow for predictability and shared responsibility across the team.

· This position also requires regularly scheduled supervision in private office space and/or virtually with assigned staff.

Requirements:

Travel:

Travel is required throughout the service area (Jefferson, Lewis County).

Required Education and Experience:

· Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a closely related clinical field from an accredited institution

· Current, unrestricted New York State clinical licensure that meets the scope of practice requirements to independently supervise clinical staff, required (LCSW or LMHC (Diagnostic Privilege))

· Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision to licensed and unlicensed clinicians and interns.

Strong organizational abilities and office skills are essential for this position. This person must also have excellent people skills and be a team player. Must be able to work with privileged information in an unbiased and ethical manner. Ability to work with diverse populations. Must demonstrate effective and excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent time-management skills. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to be clear, courteous, and professional. Able to react to change productively and handle other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Must maintain privacy of confidential information. Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements as mandated by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Mental Health and Office of Children and Family Services along with ongoing clearances and exclusion checks. These requirements are to include employment health requirements, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance and your eligibility to work in the United States. A valid NYS driver’s license is required. Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR will be required following date of hire.
