Honing Set-Up Operator in Chatsworth, California at Hydraulics International, Inc

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Honing Set-Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating honing equipment to produce precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience setting up honing machines, reading blueprints, using precision measuring instruments, and maintaining tight tolerances in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate honing machines to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Select and install appropriate honing tools, fixtures, stones, mandrels, and other tooling required for each job.
• Adjust machine settings, speeds, feeds, pressures, and stroke lengths to achieve required dimensions and surface finishes.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, routers, and manufacturing specifications.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, bore size, roundness, straightness, and surface finish throughout the machining process.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, and other inspection equipment.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure parts meet quality requirements.
• Make machine and tooling adjustments as necessary to maintain dimensional accuracy.
• Identify worn or damaged tooling and replace or adjust tooling as required.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues and make appropriate corrections.
• Complete required production, inspection, and quality documentation accurately.
• Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on honing equipment.
• Follow all company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
• Communicate production or quality concerns to the supervisor, lead, or appropriate department.
• Meet established productivity, quality, and delivery expectations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience setting up and operating honing machines in a precision manufacturing environment preferred.
• Previous experience performing machine set-ups independently.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Strong understanding of machining tolerances and surface-finish requirements.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, bore gauges, and calipers.
• Ability to perform basic shop math, including decimals and fractions.
• Ability to identify and correct machining or tooling issues.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently use hands and arms to operate machinery, tooling, and measuring equipment.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds and move materials or parts as required by the position.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery, noise, oils, and other production materials.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.

Salary Expectations:
