Job Description

Clinical Trauma Therapist (LMSW or LLMSW)

Job Summary

The Clinical Therapist provides intake, assessment, and counseling services for children, adults, and families using evidence-based therapeutic interventions. This position supports clients through individualized treatment planning, community resource coordination, crisis support, and ongoing case documentation while promoting emotional wellness, resilience, and stability. The therapist works collaboratively with internal staff, psychiatrists, the Resiliency Center, and community partners to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed care in both telehealth and in-person settings. Approximately 50% of the caseload will include community members directly impacted by the Temple Israel attack.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Counseling & Assessment

  • Provide short- and long-term counseling services for individuals and families using evidence-based therapeutic practices and interventions.
  • Provide trauma-informed therapy services to individuals impacted by traumatic events, including community members directly affected by the Temple Israel attack.
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to evaluate needs, functioning, strengths, trauma history, and treatment goals.
  • Monitor client progress through ongoing reassessment and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with clients and onsite psychiatrists to develop and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Maintain availability for evening client appointments, including two evening sessions per week.

Resiliency Center & Community Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Resiliency Center to provide therapeutic services and support to the targeted population impacted by trauma and community violence.
  • Connect clients and families with community resources including healthcare, housing, financial assistance, and additional supportive services.
  • Facilitate support groups for community members, with specific focus areas, informed by community feedback as collected by the Resiliency Center.
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison between clients and community organizations to support overall client well-being and stability.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals when clinically appropriate.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation including intake forms, progress notes, treatment plans, safety plans, and required reports within the agency’s electronic database.
  • Ensure compliance with agency standards and requirements set by accrediting and licensing bodies.
  • Protect client confidentiality and maintain secure handling of sensitive information in accordance with agency policies and ethical standards.

Team Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Participate in agency in-service trainings, workshops, supervision, and team meetings.
  • Attend assigned staff and committee meetings as required.
  • Engage in weekly individual and group supervision sessions.
  • Contribute creative ideas for group therapy topics and community-based programming initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensure

  • Master’s degree in Social Work required.
  • Active State of Michigan licensure required (LMSW or LLMSW).

Experience

  • Experience providing clinical therapy services to clients with trauma required.
  • Experience working with children strongly preferred, including knowledge of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH).
  • Experience in facilitating support groups preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong clinical assessment, counseling, and case management skills.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and interventions.
  • Experience with evidence-based trauma therapies such as EMDR, TF-CBT, CPT strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Experience using electronic health records or case management databases preferred.
