Description:

Bear River Mutual Insurance is seeking an experienced Litigation Claims Adjuster to manage highly complex Personal Lines Auto and Homeowners Liability claims. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of litigated claims, including thorough investigation, coverage analysis, strategic decision-making, and cost-effective resolution across various jurisdictions. Adjusters in this role are expected to actively shape the outcome of a claim, exercising sound judgment, ownership, and leadership throughout the litigation lifecycle.

Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree or relevant work experience preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience handling litigated claims.
  • Strong analytical, evaluative, and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to learn new applications.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain applicable adjuster licenses.
  • This role will be in-office for the first six months, with the potential for a hybrid.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

May include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching. Physical Strength: Medium Work; Exerting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or 10 lbs. constantly. Appraiser is subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees). Work is performed both inside and outside, subject to weather. Some local travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing coverage, determining liability, and evaluating damages.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and apply appropriate insurance principles, statutory requirements, case law, and jurisdictional considerations.
  • Retain defense counsel and partner with attorneys to develop clear litigation strategies, action plans, and resolution pathways.
  • Actively manage litigation by setting expectations, providing direction, and engaging in meaningful dialogue with counsel.
  • Evaluate claims exposures and demonstrate strong negotiation and resolution skills.
  • Exercise settlement authority within established limits in alignment with company guidelines.
  • Attend mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
  • Manage a litigated caseload of approximately 150–250 personal lines auto and homeowner claims.
  • Document all pertinent file activity with clear, meaningful, and defensible file documentation.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, including the ability to ask challenging questions and have difficult conversations when necessary.
  • Exhibit strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills while managing a complex caseload.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, accountability, and professionalism while contributing positively to a team environment.
