Job Description

Product Owner, Payments and Infrastructure

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Owner, Payments and Infrastructure based in United States.

This role sits at the core of building a modern, multi-rail payments ecosystem that powers complex financial operations for high-value business customers. You will design and own how money moves across bank partners, processors, and international rails, shaping a unified payments experience across fragmented systems. The work spans acquiring, cross-border transfers, banking integrations, and infrastructure orchestration at scale. You will operate at the intersection of product, engineering, and financial institutions, translating deep technical and commercial complexity into clear product decisions. This is a high-ownership role with direct impact on reliability, scalability, and customer trust in money movement. You will also play a key role in a foundational transition toward direct licensing and expanded payment autonomy.

Accountabilities:

You will own and evolve the payments infrastructure strategy, ensuring seamless orchestration across multiple providers and financial rails.

  • Lead end-to-end payments product strategy across acquiring, issuing, and cross-border money movement.
  • Own relationships and integrations with Tier 1 banks and major payment infrastructure providers, including institutions such as JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo.
  • Architect a multi-provider payments stack, balancing performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive vendor selection and negotiation across payment processors and infrastructure partners such as Stripe, Adyen, and similar platforms.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to translate product requirements into scalable system design and implementation roadmaps.
  • Lead the product and operational transition toward direct money transmitter licensing and expanded regulatory ownership.
  • Build frameworks for international expansion across multiple payment corridors and settlement systems.
  • Ensure a cohesive end-to-end customer experience across fragmented financial rails.
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings strong payments expertise, technical fluency, and proven experience navigating complex financial infrastructure.

  • 4–9+ years of product experience focused on payments, fintech infrastructure, or financial systems.
  • Proven track record of owning vendor relationships and large-scale payment integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with payment rails such as ACH, wire, card networks, real-time payments, and cross-border systems.
  • Experience working with or negotiating alongside Tier 1 financial institutions (e.g., Goldman Sachs, Citi, or comparable banks).
  • Strong understanding of payment processors and infrastructure platforms such as Marqeta, Checkout.com, or Stripe Issuing.
  • Prior exposure to money transmitter licensing transitions is strongly preferred (or ability to quickly ramp on regulatory complexity).
  • Ability to operate fluently between technical teams, financial partners, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong product judgment, particularly in environments where vendor capabilities differ from marketed offerings.
  • High ownership mindset with experience building or scaling systems in fast-growth environments.
Benefits
  • Remote-friendly setup across multiple regions (United States and beyond)
  • Opportunity to shape foundational payments infrastructure at scale
  • High-impact role with direct influence on product, engineering, and financial strategy
  • Exposure to complex global payment systems and Tier 1 financial partners
  • Strong autonomy and ownership culture in a high-growth environment
  • Competitive compensation package (details shared during hiring process)
  • Collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on speed and execution
