Position Summary

The 1st Shift Assembly Supervisor (Monday–Thursday, 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM) is responsible for leading daily operations within the assembly department to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely production of high-quality fabricated metal assemblies. This role provides direct supervision to assembly team members while promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

The Assembly Supervisor works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping, and Supply Chain to ensure customer requirements are met while driving productivity, quality, safety, and employee engagement.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervise, coach, and develop assembly employees to achieve daily production goals.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor work to ensure production schedules and customer delivery commitments are met.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Monitor labor efficiency, productivity, scrap, and downtime while implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Train and mentor employees on assembly processes, quality expectations, safety procedures, and standard work instructions.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate production goals, safety topics, quality concerns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Materials teams to quickly resolve production issues.
  • Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Promote Lean Manufacturing principles by identifying waste and improving workflow, productivity, and workplace organization (5S).
  • Monitor attendance, performance, and employee development while conducting performance evaluations and coaching conversations.
  • Ensure accurate production reporting within the ERP system and maintain departmental documentation.
  • Participate in scheduling activities and manpower planning to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and continuous process improvements.
  • Perform other supervisory duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience in metal fabrication, assembly, or industrial production.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and production scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and safe manufacturing practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using ERP or manufacturing software systems.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
  • Experience supervising fabrication or mechanical assembly operations.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, or move materials weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb as required.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
