About the Role:

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in supporting individuals who require assistance with daily living activities to maintain their independence and quality of life. This position involves providing compassionate, respectful, and personalized care tailored to each client's unique needs, ensuring their comfort and safety. The PCA will work closely with clients to assist with tasks such as personal hygiene, mobility, meal preparation, and medication reminders, fostering a supportive and trusting relationship. Additionally, the PCA serves as an important advocate for the client’s well-being, communicating any changes in health or behavior to healthcare professionals or family members. Ultimately, the PCA contributes significantly to enhancing the client’s overall health, dignity, and emotional well-being through attentive and empathetic care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified PCA training program or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required for client visits).
  • Ability to pass background checks and any required health screenings.
  • Strong communication skills and basic literacy to document care activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a PCA or in a related caregiving role.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with common medical conditions affecting elderly or disabled clients.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to the client population served.
  • Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems or care documentation software.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Support clients with mobility needs, including transferring, walking, and positioning.
  • Prepare and serve meals according to dietary requirements and assist with feeding if necessary.
  • Provide medication reminders and monitor clients for any changes in health or behavior.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support to promote mental and emotional well-being.
  • Document care provided and report any concerns or incidents to supervisors or healthcare providers.
  • Respect client confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy and safety regulations.

The PCA utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to build trust and effectively understand client needs and preferences. Attention to detail is essential when assisting with medication reminders and documenting care activities to ensure client safety and compliance with care plans. Physical stamina and dexterity are important for assisting clients with mobility and personal care tasks.
