About This Position
Job Summary:
The ER TECH performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator and is responsible for maintaining an organized work area and secretarial functions involving supplies and a computer. The ER TECH demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Performance Expectations:
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide technical care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to collect data and relay appropriate data to the nurse, status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed.

- Demonstrates thorough, concise, and timely documentation, shift reports, and verbal communication.
- Communicates pertinent patient information to all healthcare team members.
- Maintains own clinical skills, staying current in skills, ongoing competencies, equipment, and certifications to include telemetry monitoring and Basic Life Support certification.
- Demonstrates technical aptitude for working, troubleshooting, and assisting the nurse with multiple pieces of equipment used for patient care, including, but not limited to, telemetry monitoring devices and blood glucose monitoring.
- Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner. Adheres to and promotes the organization's established values, such as customer service, safety, infection control, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform EKG tracing and correctly place telemetry monitor leads on patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist professional nursing staff in caring for patients requiring emergency resuscitation.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and collect specimens according to policy and procedure.
- Demonstrates the ability to document vital signs and patient encounters in the EMR appropriately.
- Demonstrates the ability to set up sterile trays while maintaining the sterile field while assisting physicians with various procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to tolerate physically demanding task of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient.
- Demonstrates the ability to stock linens and supplies according to PAR levels in the ED.
- Demonstrates the ability to use proper phone etiquette.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide 1:1 monitoring for suicide precaution, restraint use, de-escalation and peaceful interventions.
- Demonstrates the ability to clean rooms terminally and in between patients discharged
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school diploma or equivalent required. Computer literacy preferred. Must complete education/training on suicide precautions, 1:1 monitoring, restraint use, and de-escalation and peaceful interventions during orientation and annually.
Work Experience:
Preferred but not required.
