Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Operations Supervisor oversees the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and inspection of the Company’s vehicle fleet and related equipment, supervising a team of technicians to keep vehicles safe, compliant, and available for service. This role plans preventive maintenance schedules, manages repair quality and turnaround, controls maintenance costs and parts inventory, and ensures compliance with applicable California and federal vehicle safety, emissions, and DOT regulations. The position exists to maximize fleet uptime, safety, and cost efficiency while leading and developing the maintenance workforce.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, schedule, and assign the daily work of fleet maintenance technicians, balancing workload to meet service demands.
  • Plan and oversee preventive maintenance and repair programs to maximize vehicle uptime, safety, and reliability.
  • Ensure all fleet vehicles and equipment comply with California DMV, CARB emissions, DOT, and Cal/OSHA safety requirements, and maintain accurate inspection and service records.
  • Monitor repair quality, troubleshoot complex mechanical and diagnostic issues, and verify completed work meets safety and quality standards.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, parts inventory, and relationships with outside vendors and repair contractors to control costs.
  • Track and report key performance metrics such as vehicle downtime, repair turnaround, and maintenance cost per unit.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate maintenance staff, and enforce safety protocols, company policies, and applicable labor standards.
  • Coordinate with operations and dispatch to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to service.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational certification in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of fleet, automotive, or heavy-equipment maintenance experience, including at least two (3) years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and diagnostic and repair procedures for light- and medium-duty vehicles.
  • Familiarity with applicable California (DMV, CARB) and federal (DOT, Cal/OSHA) fleet safety and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with computerized fleet/maintenance management systems and basic office software.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or equivalent.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Experience managing alternative-fuel or electric vehicle (EV) fleets.
  • Knowledge of California zero-emission vehicle and fleet electrification requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management and vendor negotiation.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing (warehouse/onsite support)
  • Walking for extended periods across facilities or yards
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
  • Reaching above/below shoulder level
  • Repetitive hand/wrist movements (typing, scanning, equipment use)
  • Operating equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.)
  • Driving as part of job duties (local or regional travel)
  • Climbing stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to varying temperatures (heat/cold)

  • Fast-paced, high-volume operational environment
  • Multi-site and/or client-facing environment
