Job Description

Project Specialist Senior (PLC)

Job Summary:The Project Specialist Senior is responsible for designing, developing, and commissioning industrial and building control systems from concept through completion. This role includes determining system requirements, creating I/O maps, specifying hardware, and developing PLC and HMI software to meet functional and performance goals. The position supports projects through construction, testing, and final commissioning, while providing technical guidance to internal teams, customers, and sales. Ongoing responsibilities include troubleshooting complex control systems, producing technical documentation, supporting future system growth, and maintaining technical expertise through continuous professional development. Travel to customer sites and access to industrial machinery are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine the design and performance parameters for control system applications.
  • Determine system I/O maps and help specify hardware to meet existing design requirements in addition to accommodation of potential future system growth.
  • Design automation, industrial, and critical environment controls system hardware and software.
  • Develop PLC and HMI software to meet the functional requirements of the system.
  • Support sales by visiting customer sites to support discussions related to the technical details of potential solutions.
  • Provide direction and support through the construction process.
  • Perform, oversee, assist, and sign off on final testing/commissioning of the completed systems.
  • Initiate final technical documentation for completed projects (As-Builts).
  • Troubleshoot and debug PLC hardware and HMI/SCADA software.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for other technicians, customers, and sales teams.
  • Responsible for maintaining current technical, interpersonal, and communication skills through continuous education/development. (school, reading, seminars, industry group membership, etc.)
  • Work with Engineering/Design team to create Submittal and Panel Drawings.
  • Maintain clean driving record.
  • Must be able to access and inspect all areas of building control and industrial machinery.
  • Must be able travel for extended durations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS (Computer/Mechanical) Engineering or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5+ years of experience in mission critical or industrial environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC and/or building automation.
  • Knowledge of industrial and mobile PLC and HMI programming.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Ignition SCADA HMI
  • Expert level knowledge of CodeSys (IEC 61131-3), RSLogix (AB), AVEVA (Wonderware) and CX-Programmer (Omron) programming languages.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in system data storage and transfer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in mission critical or industrial environment
  • 7+ years of experience in HVAC and/or building automation
  • MS (Computer/Mechanical) Engineering with 5 - 10+ years of related work experience
  • Experience with BACnet and DDC systems/protocols/programming is a plus.
  • Ignition SCADA HMI certification(s)

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, climb, walk, sit, push, pull, squat, crawl, and stoop. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of power tools will be required to effectively perform this position. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work on job sites, may be required to travel to and from job site locations, may work in a typical office environment, and is occasionally exposed to construction equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Confined space entry may be required. High work may be required.
