Location: Billings, MT (South Side)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (occasional evenings/weekends for events)
Reports To: Program Manager

Position SummaryWe are seeking a mission-driven Cook who will oversee the planning, preparation, and service of nutritious, appealing meals to youth and families participating in our programs. The ideal candidate will also maintain a clean, compliant kitchen environment, manage food resources, and support gardening and healthy eating initiatives.
As part of our broader team, this role contributes to a physically and emotionally safe environment, enhances wellness education, and promotes healthy habits across the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Service Duties- Plan, prepare, and serve healthful meals and snacks for youth and families.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and dining environment.
- Develop and manage monthly menus and food inventory.
- Order, shop for, and track food supplies—both purchased and donated.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including State Child Care licensing requirements.
- Accurately document and report food program outcomes and data.
- Collaborate with local partners such as Family Service, Billings Food Bank, and Montana Food Bank Network.
- Supervise and coordinate volunteers for meal preparation, service, and cleanup.
- Support program-wide initiatives to promote healthy eating and food education.
- Participate in regular kitchen deep-cleaning per organizational protocols.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to organizational goals.
- Assist with planning and maintaining the on-site garden.
- Implement garden-based learning opportunities for children and families.
- Oversee harvesting, cleaning, and distribution/sale of garden produce.
- Coordinate with local Master Gardeners and volunteers to enhance garden development.
- Maintain and execute a garden master plan in alignment with educational goals.
- Previous experience in food preparation, food safety, and meal planning (required).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods as required in a kitchen/garden environment.
- Must pass a background check and obtain CPR/Safety certification.
- Familiarity with food inventory systems and meal service processes.
- Experience working with children, families, and/or in a nonprofit setting preferred.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
