This pivotal position coordinates sterilization, high-level disinfection, standards compliance, education, and policy development across the organization.

This leadership role offers opportunities for profound professional impact, strategic division building, and a culture committed to clinical excellence, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement. As the Administrative Director, you will channel your superior clinical and business acumen to drive staff engagement, optimize infection control practices, and oversee all operational and budgetary elements of the Sterile Processing division. Joining RWJBarnabas Health means leading a world-class CSP team and navigating the department through three critical phases of growth: building capabilities, developing leadership engagement, and expanding long-term capacity.

A typical day for the Administrative Director of CSP may include:

  • Strategic & Operational Leadership: Planning, conducting, and executing long-term strategic plans for the Sterile Processing division while continually monitoring progress and managing operational budgets.
  • Team Development & Retention: Employing sound employee retention techniques, including effective selection and interviewing, recognition, fair discipline, and ongoing performance feedback to maintain a diverse, culturally competent workforce.
  • Standards & Regulatory Compliance: Managing and updating all regulatory activities relating to Sterile Processing, ensuring continuous compliance with FDA, OSHA, NJ DHSS, Joint Commission, and CMS survey standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serving as a primary liaison and clinical extension representing Sterile Processing in project teams and meetings with Perioperative Services, Standards, and Infection Prevention.
  • Process Improvement: Organising and conducting thorough evaluations of existing clinical practices to identify and implement evidence-based improvement opportunities.
  • Educational Programming: Developing, implementing, and assessing system-wide programs for on-the-job training, continuing education, endoscopy training, and manager competencies.
  • Expert Consultation: Serving as an expert resource for the creation and revision of departmental policies and procedures based on guidelines from AAMI (ST79, ST58, ST91), AORN, SGNA, and APIC.
  • Project Management: Organizing, executing, and reporting on multiple complex projects and facility-specific assignments simultaneously with a strong sense of urgency.

This role might be for you if:

  • You are a visionary leader who excels at driving team engagement, talent development, and building sophisticated, modern clinical divisions.
  • You thrive on complexity and possess the ability to remain positive, focused, and organized when managing multiple strategic projects simultaneously.
  • Superior clinical and business acumen allows you to balance fiscal responsibility with uncompromised patient safety and infection prevention standards.
  • You are a master communicator who interacts constructively, tactfully, and diplomatically to resolve conflicts and build cross-functional alignment.
  • Expert-level knowledge of evidence-based sterilization guidelines and regulatory frameworks is second nature to you.
  • You take pride in professional advocacy, regularly sharing knowledge, mentoring staff, and attending national conferences to keep your department at the forefront of the industry.

To be considered for this Administrative Director opportunity, you must have:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required).
  • Experience: A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive leadership within a Central Sterile Processing setting, showcasing extensive knowledge of decontamination/sterilization principles, techniques, standards, and proven operational success.
  • Required Certifications:

    • CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist)
  • Required within 1 year of hire:
