Job Description

Position Summary

Safely operate tractor-trailer combination, and truck only, on and off Post carrying various materials. Supervise freight loading and unloading to prevent damage, and to ensure freight weight limits are not exceeded. Plan routes, keep logbooks with trip details, and perform PMCS on truck and trailer.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Receive, store, and issue petroleum products delivered by contractors, vendors and as received from depots.
  • Direct the pumping of fuel into properly assigned storage tanks, vehicles, or generators.
  • Maintain daily and monthly inventories.
  • Prepares the necessary paperwork, reports, deliverables, records, and orders for specific tenants. • Escorts other fuel trucks as required by supervisor.
  • Connect lines, grounding wires, loads/unloads using hoses.
  • Gauge tank for water, temperature, and fuel levels.
  • Check pumping systems for correct operating pressure or unusual noises.
  • Load or unload truck/trailer with or without helpers.
  • Plan the most efficient and safe route to and from destination to deliver/pick up on time.
  • Ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, perform PMCS and report issues/concerns.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting dangerous goods. • Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers, etc.
  • Oversee the loading of trailer to ensure proper weights and load positions.
  • Oversee unloading to ensure no damage is done to truck, trailer, or load.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from ground guides, when needed, and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods when required.
  • Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations, when required.
  • Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading related equipment or other equipment as necessary.
  • Logging the hours driven, rest stop durations, distances covered, as well as all fuel, repair, and toll expenses.
  • Report any delays due to road conditions, accidents, or breakdowns to supervisor.
  • Adhere to federal and state trucking rules and regulations, including mandatory rest periods, weight restrictions, and weight adjustments.
  • Must obtain MHE licenses and operate MHE when required by supervisor and mission.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  • Required to walk, stand, sit, and move about the property for long periods of time.

  • Ability to visually see equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, squatting, climb, and squat.
  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, may involve physically getting into and out of vehicles/equipment.
  • Frequently works in high temperatures.
  • Occasionally works around loud noises.
  • Occasionally works around fumes.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights.

Work Environment

  • This position is classified as low hazard.
  • Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
  • Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
  • PPE will be worn in designated areas as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a CDL with hazmat endorsements.
  • Must be medically qualified in accordance with company and government regulations.
  • Must possess a good driving record.
  • Must have the skill and knowledge to operate the various kinds of vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades.
  • Must be knowledgeable about which routes may be legally driven and the overpass clearance and other restrictions on such routes.
  • Read and interpret equipment operator’s manuals.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years related experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving trucks.
  • Must be able speak, write, read, and understand English.
  • Perform common mathematical tasks and communicate effectively.
  • Must show proof of qualifications and experience prior to hiring.

  • Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
  • Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.
  • Must take and pass drug screening and undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must pass the National Agency Background Check and obtain computer access.
  • Proficient writing emails and using Microsoft Office programs and other computer systems.

Security Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check
  • Must pass the National Agency Background Check and obtain computer access.
