The Role

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs at all Aspire facilities, which should be completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Maintenance Technician supports the needs of the agency and general work requirements as assigned. The person in this role follows all safety procedures and works in a fast-paced team environment.

What You’ll Do

Perform Facility Maintenance & Repairs

  • Complete facility Tree work orders including, but not limited to plumbing, light carpentry, moving, assembling furniture, drywall repair, painting, and accurately documenting time and materials used.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs of exterior and interior systems of Aspire buildings and residences.
  • Basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance.

Complete Skilled Maintenance Tasks

  • Plumbing: Perform routine plumbing repairs such as clearing toilets and drain lines, and replacing toilets, worn-out washers/gaskets, faucets, and floats.
  • Carpentry: Perform routine carpentry repairs such as kitchen cabinets, window screens/glass, door locks, and plaster/drywall.
  • Mechanical: Perform routine mechanical repairs, including diagnosing and repairing major appliances and other needed power tools.
  • Perform other unskilled tasks such as interior and exterior painting, waste removal, tree/shrub trimming, debris removal, and moving/delivering furniture.

Support Facility Operations

  • Identify, catalog, and report necessary materials used in maintenance operations.
  • Assist other departments with moving furniture, including unloading and storing supplies.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal (where applicable).

Respond to Maintenance Needs

  • Be responsible for on-call emergency work orders in Aspire buildings and residences.
  • Recognize when specialized knowledge is necessary and report to the Facilities Manager.

Maintain Safety & Compliance

  • Attend all mandatory employee staff meetings and company safety meetings/webinars, and complete all assigned training on time.
  • Understand and follow all safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience and training required; three (3) years experience preferred
  • Ability to perform physical labor, operate machinery and tools in all weather conditions
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and good driving record
  • Basic proficiency of Microsoft Outlook and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift certification
  • Appliance repair experience
