Responsibilities

Leading Best-in-Class Manufacturing Quality

  • Standardize Key Performance Indicators for Manufacturing Quality, including site-to-site interactions and including distribution centers, when applicable. Conduct appropriate cadence of review to drive actions and accountabilities towards goals
  • Establish and Coordinate Operational strategies & deployment for effective quality processes and tools (PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Capability, 8D Root Cause investigations, etc.)
  • Promote and continuously improve the MSA Quality Management System and its tools
  • Establish a network, best practice sharing and consistent deployment of quality initiatives among all manufacturing sites
  • Act as a liaison on quality topics between manufacturing sites and business units to support effectiveness and swift problem resolution
  • Assist sites in determining when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes, coach on the review and analysis of results, including coaching on recommended changes resulting from the findings. Hold teams accountable to verifying effectiveness of changes.
  • Coach manufacturing sites on New Product Industrialization deliverables (PFMEA, Safe Launch, Quality Planning). Responsible to ensure deliverables are completed robustly and on-time for successful new product industrialization.
  • Maintain process for manufacturing site changes of product within MSA sites, coordinate and/or align necessary resources to ensure quality is maintained from sending to receiving site
  • Develop a proactive culture for continuous quality improvement in processes and mitigation of quality risk. Drive organizational with operations to identify poke yoke solutions that continually reduce RPN – Risk Priority Numbers within Process FMEAs.

Foster a Continuous Improvement, Plan, Do, Check, Act mindset across team members

  • Partner with key relevant functions to drive and/or support strategy towards enhanced digitization and Quality 4.0 advancement

Global Quality System & Process Excellence

  • Manage MSA's Quality Management System program with a strategic mindset, identifying areas to standardize globally vs locally to ensure an effective QMS that aligns with business need and customer expectation
  • Ensure MSA maintains third-party certifications to ISO 9001 where applicable. Optimize certification costs and deployment globally and maintain relationships with third-party agencies
  • Utilize appropriate benchmarking and comparative data to identify and implement quality system best practices across MSA manufacturing sites
  • Implement an effective and easily accessed document management system for our QMS, hold functions accountable to timely review and update of documentation
  • Ensure a robust internal audit plan is executed and that improvements are demonstrable
  • Define processes and playbooks towards best-in-class manufacturing quality (serialization, batch control, site transfer quality assurance, quality alert notifications, site transfers, inter-site quality topics)

Quality Tools & Training

  • Research and implement tools to support the business of Quality (e.g., IQOS, Propel, iAuditor, Minitab, MS Power Platforms)
  • Lead the delivery of training (internal or outsource) for high priority skills such as APQP tools and problem solving
  • Oversee the standardization of implementation of the SAP Quality Module across manufacturing sites where value added. Build the necessary oversight and talent (Internal, external, direct, or indirect) to ensure knowledge management of MSA application of SAP quality module. Drive improvements in the usage and align MSA with industry best practices where beneficial to the company and our customers

Safety & People

  • Promote a safety-first and people-first culture
  • Support the identification, hiring, and retention of top quality talent within function and across manufacturing sites, maintain visibility to global training needs and establish relevant programs and opportunities to build a world class team on quality principles, tools, and capabilities
  • Be a champion for Quality principles, tools and mindset
  • Ensure sites maintain a Training Needs Analysis and development plan for their Quality teams
  • Motivate and guide associates within function toward higher levels of performance.
  • Translate strategic priorities into operational reality and align communications, resource capabilities, and processes.
  • Build talent and skillset in data analytics and technology relevant to Quality, including ensuring succession planning for SAP Quality Module and IQOS technical knowledge
  • Conduct necessary day-to-day management responsibilities, if managing direct reports
  • Manage team and individual performance


Qualifications

Education & Experience (required):

Bachelors degree in technical, engineering, business field or other related degree.

Level 1:

  • At least 8 years of relevant quality experience within the manufacturing industry, minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct staff management.
  • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.

Level 2:

  • At least 10 years of relevant quality experience within the manufacturing industry, minimum of 2 years’. experience in direct staff management.
  • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Global exposure is essential.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking, including seeing the big picture and motivating others towards common goals.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated skills in structured problem solving (A3, 8D, FTA). Excellent critical thinking skills necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), including facilitation experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
  • Understanding of quality control concepts (inspection sampling, measurement techniques and tools, statistical process control, etc.).
  • Basic design drawing interpretation (e.g., tolerancing, dimensions, material callout, bill of materials)
  • Strong Continuous Improvement/Lean experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001, quality systems, tools, and procedures required. Experience in leading and improving Quality Management Systems including experience with facilitating an internal audit program.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to lead effectively in a matrix organization, in virtual teams (across different locations), and multi-cultural environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - both verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Education & Experience (preferred):

  • Experience in a global manufacturing multi-site organization.
  • Familiarization with SAP Quality Module.
  • Certified Quality Auditor or Certified Quality Engineer a plus.
  • Familiarization with automation and advanced technologies for manufacturing quality control.
  • Experience with Dfx concepts (Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly).
