Job Description
Purpose:
The Temporary Department Support Worker will assist the Chemistry Department in
preparing for an upcoming renovation.
Summary of the position:
This role focuses on organizing, inventorying, packing, and facilitating the safe
relocation or disposal of materials, equipment, and supplies in accordance with
institutional and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist with clearing out offices, laboratories, storage rooms, and shared
departmental spaces.
2. Inventory equipment, supplies, chemicals, and other materials according to
department protocols.
3. Sort items for retention, relocation, donation, recycling, or disposal.
4. Pack and label items systematically to ensure accurate tracking and safe
transport.
5. Support coordination of moves within the building or to temporary storage
locations.
6. Handle materials carefully, following safety procedures, especially with laboratory
and chemical items.
7. Maintain organized records of cleared, packed, and relocated items (paper or
digital tracking).
8. Assist with basic cleaning and preparation of spaces once cleared.
9. Follow all institutional safety, environmental, and compliance guidelines
(including lab safety where applicable)
10. Perform other related tasks as assigned to support renovation preparation.

Minimum Education Required:
