The Engineering Manager will lead a product engineering team, focusing on developing people, improving delivery practices, and ensuring teams are aligned with business and customer goals. This role requires a balance of leadership, technical credibility, and organizational influence.
- Lead and support an engineering squad of approximately 8–15 engineers, creating an environment where team members can deliver their best work.
- Serve as a servant leader by coaching engineers, supporting career development, and helping individuals reach their full potential.
- Hire, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering talent while maintaining a strong technical hiring standard.
- Own team planning, budget management, and headcount strategy to support organizational growth.
- Establish effective engineering processes, team norms, and delivery practices that promote speed, quality, and collaboration.
- Drive predictable delivery by helping teams prioritize impactful work, manage risks, and focus on customer outcomes.
- Encourage teams to take ownership of product solutions, ensuring engineering decisions remain connected to customer needs.
- Partner closely with Product, Delivery, and engineering leadership teams to align priorities and execution strategies.
- Promote AI-native engineering practices by helping teams leverage modern AI tools to improve productivity, quality, and innovation.
- Champion engineering excellence through strong testing practices, validation processes, developer experience improvements, and reliable production systems.
- Participate as a member of the engineering leadership team, contributing to decisions around hiring, career frameworks, technical standards, roadmap planning, and organizational design.
- Support a culture of transparency, accountability, constructive feedback, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in software development, team management, and modern AI technologies. They should be comfortable operating in a lean, remote environment while balancing technical depth with people-first leadership.
- 5+ years of experience managing software engineers or engineering teams.
- 10+ years of experience in a technical field such as software engineering.
- Proven track record of hiring, developing, and managing strong technical talent.
- Experience owning team budgets, workforce planning, and organizational growth initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver software products predictably while maintaining high quality standards.
- Strong technical understanding of system design, architecture tradeoffs, and engineering decision-making.
- Hands-on experience using modern AI tools in real-world workflows, with the ability to demonstrate practical AI applications.
- Ability to build trust and credibility with senior engineers while empowering them to own technical decisions.
- Experience partnering closely with Product, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear feedback, influence stakeholders, and drive alignment.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with conversational AI, voice technology, machine learning systems, or real-time infrastructure.
- Experience building testing and validation approaches for AI-powered or nondeterministic systems.
- Background in fast-moving startups or lean engineering organizations.
