Position Overview

Subway is building a best-in-class Procurement function, and this role is a key Leader. The Director, Procurement will own sourcing strategy, execution and delivery across approximately $200M of corporate spend, with a clear mandate to deliver cost savings that impact EBITDA.

Reporting directly to the VP of Procurement, this leader will lead and enhance Subway's sourcing capability, build supplier relationships and category strategies, and influence the business. They will work with VP Procurement, and alongside peers including a new procurement center of excellence. Key relationships will include finance, legal, HR and other senior business stakeholders across the enterprise.

This is a high-visibility role, and the right candidate is a proven sourcing operator who can think strategically, execute and deliver quickly, and build credibility fast in an environment where procurement is being established as a strategic enterprise asset for the first time.

What You Will Do:

Sourcing Strategy & Execution

Own and lead sourcing strategy across spend categories including Professional Services, HR/Benefits, Finance & Legal, Contingent Workforce, and other enterprise-level categories. IT and Marketing are led by other teams.

Design and execute demand management strategies including spend elimination, spend reduction, and spec optimization and standardization to eliminate wasteful spending

Develop, lead and execute competitive sourcing events, supplier negotiations, and contract award recommendations in close collaboration with key stakeholders that deliver measurable EBITDA improvement

Build and maintain a multi-year category management roadmap aligned to business priorities and savings targets

Identify and quantify sourcing opportunities using spend analytics, market benchmarks, and supplier intelligence

Savings Delivery & Financial Accountability

Own the corporate spending savings pipeline from opportunity identification through contracting and Finance validation and sign-off

Deliver 15%+ savings on ~$200M addressable spend, and sustainable annual EBITDA improvement

Produce Finance-grade reporting on savings achievement, pipeline status, and delivery confidence partnering closely with FP&A

Establish and enforce savings tracking methodology that meets VP Procurement and Finance standards

Stakeholder & Supplier Management

Build trusted working relationships with senior stakeholders across HR, Finance, Legal, and business unit leadership sourcing decisions happen with the business, not to it

Manage strategic supplier relationships, balancing cost, quality, risk, and partnership value over multi-year horizons

Lead supplier business reviews and performance management for key suppliers

Procurement Function Build-Out

Partner with the VP of Procurement and peers to establish sourcing processes, templates, governance, and policy standards for the corporate spend pillar

Contribute to the selection and implementation of procurement p2p technology including spend analytics, CLM, and project tracking tools as the function's digital foundation is built

Recruit, develop, and lead any additions to the corporate spend sourcing team

Skills & Qualifications:

Technical & Functional Skills

Strategic sourcing: end-to-end RFx design, competitive bidding, and negotiation across a broad portfolio of indirect categories

Category management: multi-year roadmaps across Professional Services, HR/Benefits, Finance & Legal, Contingent Workforce, and related corporate categories

Financial acumen: ability to build supplier business cases, model TCO, and translate savings to EBITDA impact, not avoidance

Spend analytics: proficiency with analytical tools and spend cube data to identify opportunity, track execution, and validate savings with Finance

Contract management: knowledge of authoring, redlining, and managing complex multi-year supplier agreements; understanding of commercial risk and liability

Procurement technology: experience with eSourcing platforms and tools (Spend Analytics and CLM a must)

Savings pipeline management: structured approach to initiative tracking, milestone ownership, and Finance-grade savings reporting

Market intelligence: knowledge of supplier markets, pricing benchmarks, and industry cost drivers across indirect spend categories

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

Executive presence: comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders; can translate procurement value into business language

Stakeholder influence: earns credibility and drives alignment across functions without direct authority, working through the business, not around it

Negotiation: principled negotiator who can manage high-stakes supplier relationships while protecting long-term partnership value

Change management: ability to shift procurement from transactional to strategic in an environment where the function is being built, not inherited

Builder mentality: thrives in a build-from-scratch environment; comfortable with ambiguity and able to establish structure, process, and governance where little exists

Team leadership: experience developing and motivating procurement talent; models accountability and high standards

Communication: clear, direct, and concise, written and verbal, including executive reporting, board-ready materials, and supplier correspondence

Collaboration: works effectively with Legal, Finance, FP&A, and business partners to align category strategy with enterprise priorities

Experience & Background

12+ years of progressive procurement and strategic sourcing experience, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role

Demonstrated track record of delivering realized (EBITDA) savings on large, dispersed indirect spend portfolios

Experience driving or supporting the transformation of a procurement function, not just operating within a mature one

Proven ability to operate at the executive level

Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience with demonstrated and sustained financial delivery

CPM, CPSM, or equivalent procurement certification a plus

Why This Role

Subway is one of the world's largest restaurant brands, and Procurement is in the early stages of a transformation that will have direct, measurable impact on enterprise EBITDA. This role offers a rare combination: the scale of a global brand with the greenfield opportunity of building something from scratch. The function has full CEO and CFO sponsorship, a clear mandate, and a leadership team that views procurement as a strategic asset, not a back-office function.

For a procurement leader who is energized by building, who wants their savings to show up directly on the P&L, and who is ready to step into a high-visibility seat with real executive partnership, this is that role.
