POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Associate is responsible for supporting the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and functionality of CIIS facilities. This position performs general building maintenance, coordinates facility services, assists with event setup, maintains inventory, and supports a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Facilities Associate also provides support for campus security operations and assists with Clery Act crime reporting and emergency response activities as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine facility maintenance, troubleshoot building issues, and complete minor repairs.
• Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for maintenance, repairs, and facility services.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and operational improvements.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, restrooms, classrooms, and exterior spaces.
• Assist with office moves, furniture assembly, room setups, and workspace reconfigurations.
• Manage inventory of office supplies, furniture, equipment, and facility materials.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and building regulations.
• Assist with developing and supporting emergency preparedness and safety procedures.
• Coordinate vendor services including janitorial, landscaping, and other contracted services.
• Provide logistical support for campus events, including setup, breakdown, and facility readiness.
• Support campus security operations as needed by monitoring entrances, assisting visitors, responding to alarms, and following emergency procedures.
• Report Clery Act crimes and other safety concerns to management in accordance with university procedures.
• Maintain a professional and customer-service-oriented presence while interacting with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and vendors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, custodial services, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance, minor repairs, and safe operation of hand and power tools.
• Experience working with vendors and contractors is preferred.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
• Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, or respond to emergency situations when required.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position works primarily on-site in a higher education environment with regular movement throughout campus buildings. Work includes both indoor and occasional outdoor responsibilities and may require responding to facility issues outside of normal business hours. Evening and weekend work may be required to support campus operations and special events.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Operate maintenance tools and equipment safely.
• Work in various weather conditions when supporting outdoor campus operations.
• Perform repetitive movements including walking, lifting, and carrying throughout the workday.

LOCATION

This is a full-time and 100% on-campus position. Consistent, dependable attendance and an on-campus presence are essential requirements of this role. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to campus and are expected to reside within or relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. Evening and weekend availability may be required based on operational needs, campus events, or emergency response.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

$19.61 - $24.48

This is a benefits-eligible position. Employees are eligible to participate in the university's benefits programs, subject to plan terms and eligibility requirements.

• Working Conditions Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
• Background Check Due to the sensitivity and requirements of this position, you should expect to undergo and be cleared of an employment background/criminal check, if extended an offer for employment. You may also be asked to provide proof of educational degree(s), licenses, or credentials pertinent to the position. If your job requires driving on behalf of CIIS you will be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license.
