Position Information


The Research Administrator 2 (RA) will provide direct support in pre- and post-award administration for the assigned Principal Investigators (PIs), ensuring compliance with agency-specific guidelines and institutional policies. The RA will work on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards. The RA will perform complex budget/resource analysis including forecasting, retrieving data from campus financial systems, organizing and validating data, and preparing comprehensive reports. The RA will work with a diverse set of customers and will report to the Financial Operations Manager. Our administrative unit provides business services for a large and complex operation encompassing extensive teaching, research, and outreach components for the Botanic Gardens, Earth & Planetary Sciences, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS). We also provide support for the UCR employees and campus purchases of the USDA Salinity Laboratory, as well as conference management for CNAS faculty conferences.The full salary range for the Research Administrator 2 is $34.17 - $49.44 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $34.17 - $36.29 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.  Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Minimum Requirements
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
The ideal candidate will have a welcoming attitude and be able to effectively manage difficult situations; will take ownership of assigned duties as demonstrated by independently shepherding tasks to a successful conclusion; will promptly communicate problems and issues to the Lead Financial Operations Manager; will be able to meet deadlines and work accurately; and will be both a knowledgeable resource and the link between faculty, students, staff, and campus resources.
Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of UC and UCR policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience in preparation and submission of contract and grant proposals using various on-line applications.
Demonstrated knowledge of UCR's financial systems.
Experience working in an institution of higher education.
