This role offers the opportunity to build the core infrastructure powering an AI-native platform used by leading e-commerce brands to improve marketing and creative performance.
You will design and scale backend systems, APIs, and services that enable teams to move faster and deliver impactful customer solutions.
Working within a high-growth, remote-first engineering environment, you will take ownership of complex technical challenges from architecture through production.
The role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in ambiguity, values autonomy, and enjoys building foundational systems from the ground up.
You will contribute to an AI-driven development culture where engineers leverage modern tools while maintaining strong technical ownership and quality standards.
Your work will directly influence platform scalability, reliability, and the future evolution of intelligent workflows.
This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team where innovation, speed, and engineering excellence are central to how products are built.
As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will own the design, development, and evolution of critical backend infrastructure that supports product teams and large-scale AI-powered workflows. You will act as a technical leader, driving architectural decisions, improving engineering practices, and delivering reliable systems that create measurable customer value.
- Architect and build scalable backend systems, APIs, and services that support platform growth and product innovation.
- Own service boundaries, data models, API contracts, and technical decisions for systems operating in production environments.
- Lead complex backend initiatives from initial design through implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
- Design and maintain asynchronous, event-driven architectures using queues, background jobs, and messaging systems.
- Build and optimize data architectures, including schema design, ETL workflows, and storage solutions across relational and document databases.
- Develop and maintain reliable third-party integrations, including authentication, rate limiting, retries, and failure handling strategies.
- Contribute to AI-native engineering practices by effectively using AI coding tools while maintaining ownership of code quality, security, and reliability.
- Partner with engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to translate technical decisions into business outcomes.
- Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, mentoring, technical guidance, and adoption of best practices.
- Improve platform scalability, performance, observability, and developer experience as the product ecosystem expands.
- Support rapid delivery cycles by making pragmatic technical decisions aligned with customer impact.
The ideal candidate is a senior backend engineer with strong experience building scalable platforms in fast-growing technology environments. You should combine deep technical expertise with strong ownership, communication skills, and the ability to lead through influence.
- 6+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale software applications, with recent experience operating at a Staff Engineer, Lead Engineer, or equivalent individual contributor level.
- Proven experience architecting backend systems that support multiple teams and production workloads.
- Strong expertise with backend development using Node.js and TypeScript, or comparable modern backend technologies.
- Experience designing APIs, service architectures, and scalable data models.
- Experience building asynchronous and event-driven systems using queues, workers, and messaging patterns.
- Strong understanding of databases and data architecture, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar technologies.
- Experience owning complex technical projects from concept through production delivery.
- Experience integrating third-party platforms and managing reliability challenges at scale.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, AI workflows, or intelligent product capabilities.
- Strong AI-assisted development experience using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar solutions.
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs critically and maintain high engineering standards.
- Experience mentoring engineers, leading design discussions, and improving development practices.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities and high autonomy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work with significant overlap during Eastern Time working hours.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or similar environments is considered an asset.
- Experience in adtech, martech, marketing technology, or creative analytics is a plus.
- Founder or founding-engineer experience is considered a bonus.
- Competitive compensation package with a base salary range of CAD $200,000–$250,000.
- Equity participation for all employees.

- $1,500 work-from-home setup stipend.
- Remote-first work environment with flexibility across Canada.
- Optional office hub access for employees who prefer in-person collaboration.
- Regular in-person engineering, product, and design build weeks every two months.
- Annual company retreat and opportunities to connect with teammates.
- Opportunity to work on innovative AI-powered technology at significant scale.
