Mobile Engineer (React Native / Expo)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mobile Engineer (React Native / Expo) based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to build and own a mobile product from the ground up within a fast-growing AI technology environment.
The Mobile Engineer will define mobile architecture, development practices, and release processes while creating impactful user experiences.
You will take full ownership of mobile engineering, from application development to store releases and ongoing improvements.
The position combines React Native development, Expo expertise, mobile architecture, performance optimization, and product ownership.
You will collaborate with a talented engineering team working on next-generation software solutions transforming enterprise workflows.

Accountabilities:

The Mobile Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and scaling mobile applications while establishing best practices for architecture, development workflows, and release management. This role requires strong technical ownership, a proactive mindset, and the ability to deliver high-quality mobile experiences in a fast-paced environment.

  • Build and own the mobile application architecture and development process from the ground up.
  • Develop high-quality mobile experiences using React Native and Expo.
  • Manage the complete mobile application lifecycle, including development, testing, releases, and ongoing improvements.
  • Own application build processes, store submissions, release management, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Establish scalable coding practices, engineering standards, and workflows to support future mobile development teams.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to define and deliver impactful features.
  • Optimize mobile application performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Manage signing, provisioning, TestFlight workflows, internal testing tracks, and App Store/Google Play release processes.
  • Contribute to technical decisions around mobile architecture, tooling, and engineering best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and continuously raise the quality standards of the mobile product.
  • Support future team growth through technical leadership and mentorship.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced mobile engineer with a strong background in React Native, Expo, and production application delivery. Success in this role requires technical ownership, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate independently in a high-growth environment.

  • Proven experience shipping and maintaining at least one production mobile application end-to-end.
  • 4+ years of experience with React Native, or equivalent native iOS/Android experience with the ability to quickly transition to React Native.
  • Hands-on experience with Expo and Expo Application Services (EAS), including Build, Submit, and Update workflows.
  • 5+ years of experience working with TypeScript.
  • Experience managing complete mobile release cycles, including signing, provisioning, testing, and store approvals.
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture, application performance, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with over-the-air updates and mobile deployment workflows.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, autonomous environment with a strong ownership mindset.
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and engineering approaches.
  • Practical problem-solving skills with the ability to make effective technical decisions.
  • Experience with large-scale applications, offline-first architecture, or products with significant user adoption is considered an asset.
  • Experience writing or modifying native modules using Swift or Kotlin is a plus.
  • iOS development experience, mobile observability knowledge, or an active GitHub presence are additional assets.

    • Base salary range of approximately USD $120,000–$180,000.
