Job Description

M365 Migration Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a M365 Migration Specialist based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to lead complex Microsoft 365 migrations across enterprise environments and help organizations transition securely and efficiently to modern cloud platforms.
You’ll serve as a technical subject matter expert across tenant-to-tenant and Active Directory-to-M365 migrations, taking ownership from planning and tenant setup through execution and stabilization.
Your work will span identity, messaging, collaboration services, governance, security, and user adoption.
You’ll manage migrations involving Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Entra ID, and related Microsoft 365 services while minimizing disruption to users.
The position combines hands-on technical execution with troubleshooting, documentation, stakeholder collaboration, and post-migration support.
You’ll also help establish coexistence and cutover strategies, resolve complex identity and mail-flow issues, and maintain strong security and governance throughout the transition.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong M365 professional who enjoys solving migration challenges in large and evolving environments.

Accountabilities
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for Microsoft 365 migration initiatives, including tenant-to-tenant and Active Directory-to-M365 migrations.
  • Support the development of detailed migration plans, tenant configurations, execution strategies, governance processes, and user adoption approaches.
  • Execute migrations of mailboxes, distribution groups, public folders, calendars, and other messaging objects using appropriate migration tools and PowerShell automation.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Quest On Demand Migration or BitTitan MigrationWiz to support large-scale migration activities.
  • Lead Entra ID migration and restructuring activities, including identity consolidation, domain changes, and hybrid identity configurations.
  • Develop and implement coexistence and cutover strategies designed to provide a seamless user experience throughout migration waves.
  • Migrate Microsoft 365 collaboration services, including Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, to the target Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Troubleshoot directory synchronization issues, mail delivery problems, hybrid identity errors, authentication challenges, and other migration-related incidents.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement remediation plans to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Maintain security controls, compliance requirements, identity governance policies, and organizational standards throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with security, network, infrastructure, and support teams to coordinate dependencies and resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Create and maintain migration runbooks, technical documentation, configuration records, procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
  • Provide hands-on support to users following migration and help stabilize environments during the post-migration period.
  • Support transition activities and handoff to the steady-state support or operations team once migration activities are completed.
  • Contribute to user adoption, change management, and training initiatives where required to support successful M365 adoption.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience performing technical migrations, Microsoft 365 implementations, or client support and service operations.
  • Proven experience delivering Microsoft 365 migrations for enterprise or external clients.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 administration, Exchange Online, identity management, and cloud-based collaboration services.
  • Practical experience with tenant-to-tenant and/or Active Directory-to-Microsoft 365 migrations.
  • Strong knowledge of SMTP, mail flow, connectors, DNS records, MX, SPF, DKIM, and transport rules.
  • Experience using PowerShell to automate the migration and management of users, groups, mailboxes, and other directory objects.
  • Deep understanding of identity architectures, including SSO, federation, ADFS, hybrid identity, and authentication protocols such as OAuth and SAML.
  • Hands-on experience with Entra ID migration, identity consolidation, domain changes, and hybrid configurations.
  • Experience migrating Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and related Microsoft 365 workloads.
  • Experience with migration platforms such as Quest On Demand Migration or BitTitan MigrationWiz.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, particularly for directory synchronization, authentication, mail flow, and hybrid identity issues.
  • Ability to understand complex technical dependencies and develop practical migration and remediation strategies.
  • Strong documentation, communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with security, networking, infrastructure, application, and support teams.
  • Microsoft certifications such as MS-300, MS-700, or MS-102 are preferred.
  • Experience with domain re-homing, coexistence planning, and migration cutover activities is an advantage.
  • Experience working in regulated industries, large enterprise environments, or multi-tenant Microsoft 365 environments is desirable.
  • Exposure to user adoption strategies, change management, and technical training is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide effective post-migration support.
Benefits
  • 12-month contract with potential for extension or conversion.
  • Fully remote work arrangement.
  • Opportunity to work on complex enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 migration initiatives.
  • Hands-on exposure to Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, PowerShell, and migration platforms.
  • Opportunity to develop expertise across identity, cloud collaboration, messaging, security, governance, and migration architecture.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional technical teams, including security, networking, infrastructure, and support.
  • Opportunity to contribute to migration strategy, technical documentation, user adoption, and transition-to-support activities.
  • Professional growth through exposure to large-scale cloud transformation and modernization projects.
