Description:

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking Lamination Technicians to join our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.

The Lamination Technician is responsible for building fiberglass and composite boat components through the proper application of fiberglass reinforcement, resins, and related materials. This position performs hands-on lamination work on hulls, decks, and other molded components while maintaining established quality and production standards.

Previous boat-building or fiberglass manufacturing experience is preferred. Candidates with transferable experience in composites, fiberglass, automotive, RV, aerospace, construction, or other hands-on manufacturing environments are also encouraged to apply.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform fiberglass and composite lamination on hulls, decks, and other boat components
  • Apply fiberglass reinforcement, resins, and related composite materials according to established specifications
  • Perform hand lay-up and other assigned lamination processes
  • Properly position and layer fiberglass materials within production molds
  • Use rollers and other lamination tools to consolidate materials and remove trapped air
  • Ensure proper resin saturation and consistent material coverage
  • Identify and correct air pockets, wrinkles, dry areas, excess resin, and other lamination defects
  • Follow established material, resin, catalyst, and application requirements
  • Inspect work throughout the lamination process to maintain quality standards
  • Verify fiberglass placement, thickness, coverage, and overall workmanship
  • Trim or prepare materials as required during the production process
  • Safely operate hand tools, rollers, cutting tools, and other equipment used in fiberglass production
  • Coordinate with Gelcoat, Mold Maintenance, Cut & Grind, Quality, and other production teams
  • Report material, mold, process, or quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean and proper working condition
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Follow all company production, quality, environmental, health, and safety procedures
  • Perform other fiberglass, composites, and production duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Hands-on manufacturing, fiberglass, composites, construction, automotive, RV, or similar production experience preferred
  • Ability to safely work with fiberglass, resins, catalysts, and other composite materials
  • Ability to use common hand tools and production equipment
  • Ability to follow work instructions, material specifications, and established production procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to identify visible defects and inconsistencies during the production process
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a production team
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a consistent production schedule
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous fiberglass lamination experience
  • Previous boat or marine manufacturing experience
  • Experience with hand lay-up fiberglass processes
  • Experience working with polyester or vinyl ester resins and fiberglass reinforcement materials
  • Experience using rollers and other composite lamination tools
  • Experience working with fiberglass production molds
  • Automotive, RV, aerospace, marine, or other composites manufacturing experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an active boat manufacturing environment
  • Regular exposure to fiberglass, resins, catalysts, chemicals, dust, odors, noise, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in and around large molds and boat components
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with fiberglass lamination
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and move materials and equipment as required by the position
  • Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
  • Where respirator use is required, must satisfy applicable medical-evaluation and fit-testing requirements
