Human Resources Generalist

Location: Halethorpe, MD
Travel: Regular local travel throughout assigned branch locations

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary HR partner for assigned locations, providing consultative support to managers and employees across multiple branches. This position is responsible for employee relations, performance management, compliance, workforce planning, employee engagement, and HR operations while ensuring consistent application of company policies and employment practices.

This role is based in our Halethorpe, MD office and requires frequent local travel to support branch operations throughout the region.

Essential Job ResponsibilitiesEmployee Relations & Leadership Support
  • Serve as the primary HR business partner for assigned branch locations.
  • Partner with managers and employees to resolve employee relations matters, attendance concerns, workplace conflicts, and policy interpretation.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • Coach leaders on performance management, documentation, employee development, and effective communication.
  • Support corrective action, performance improvement plans, and employee development initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with operational leadership while providing practical HR guidance and support.
Performance Management & Workforce Planning
  • Partner with managers on employee performance reviews, promotions, transfers, and organizational changes.
  • Monitor turnover trends and recommend strategies to improve employee retention and engagement.
  • Support workforce planning initiatives and organizational effectiveness.
  • Assist leaders with succession planning and talent development efforts.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
  • Support administration of leave programs, reasonable accommodations, workers' compensation, and unemployment claims.
  • Maintain accurate employee documentation and HR records.
  • Assist with internal audits, compliance reporting, and policy administration.
Employee Experience & Engagement
  • Support onboarding and new employee integration across assigned locations.
  • Conduct employee check-ins and engagement discussions.
  • Partner with leadership to promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Assist with employee recognition programs, communication initiatives, and engagement activities.
  • Collaborate closely with Talent Acquisition and Operations to deliver an exceptional employee experience.
HR Operations
  • Maintain employee information within HRIS systems and ensure data accuracy.
  • Process employee status changes, promotions, transfers, and organizational updates.
  • Support employees and managers with HR-related questions and system navigation.
  • Partner with Payroll and Benefits teams to ensure timely and accurate HR processes.
Training & Development
  • Support leadership development initiatives and employee training programs.
  • Deliver HR-related training, policy education, and compliance updates.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen leadership capability and employee development.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources experience in an HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or Employee Relations role.
  • Experience supporting managers and employees across multiple locations.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, employment law, performance management, and HR best practices.
  • Experience utilizing HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel regularly between local branch locations.
Preferred
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience supporting field-based or operational workforces.
  • Experience within residential home services, construction, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, or similar industries.
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations in a growth-oriented organization.

Working Conditions
  • Based in our Halethorpe, MD office.
  • Frequent local travel to support assigned branch locations throughout the region.
  • Professional office and operational work environments.
  • Occasional travel for meetings, training, and company initiatives.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
Compensation

Compensation: $80,000-90,000
