Responsibilities
• In partnership with terminal management, respond to and address employee relations issues including recommendations for appropriate action; mediate and facilitate issues between management and employees; develop solutions to challenges of diverse scope and complexity while managing precedents
• Assist terminal management with coaching and counseling employees on a variety of issues; draft complex and sensitive employee warnings
• Conduct onboarding interviews for new hires and report on feedback quarterly
• Support leadership in the development and implementation of employee engagement actions plans
• Investigate and document employee concerns regarding workplace and other issues; present recommendations and findings to executive leadership
• Assist terminal management with recruiting qualified applicants for all positions including phone screening, interviewing, attending job fairs, and maintaining relationships with recruiting sources
• Communicate HR policies and procedures to terminal employees; assist in the creation and implementation of new HR policies; support terminal management in the interpretation and use of policies, procedures, and applicable employment laws whenever feasible
• Coordinate and lead various HR initiatives and projects across the enterprise
• Assemble documentation, prepare terminal managers and supervisors for, and attend (when necessary) unemployment hearings acting as the company representative
• Submit monthly report of all HR related activities
• Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
Other Duties
• Support the wellness initiatives at terminal locations
• Conduct exit interviews of former employees
• Assist terminal operations with the new hire orientation
• Audit HR processes and procedures across terminal locations
• Support the corporate intern program
• Assist with the collection and interpretation of data for various annual and ad hoc reports
Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business, or a related field required. PHR or other professional HR certification preferred
• Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive HR experience partnering with management and operations resolving complex issues
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise sound judgement when it comes to employee relations matters
• Understanding of various employment laws, compliance issues, and various other HR topics
• Experience working in transportation, manufacturing, or in an industrial environment is strongly preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences
• Ability to solve complex business problems and think critically
• Must work collaboratively with operations to meet goals and objectives while maintaining company culture and strong, effective relationships
• Must be able to prioritize competing objectives and consistently meet deadlines
Working Conditions
• Primarily a sedentary position working in an office environment; frequent exposure to moderate noise levels including ringing telephones, machinery, and conversations of others.
• 20-30% travel required to terminal or other locations within the enterprise’s service footprint
• Potential exposure to adverse weather conditions when interacting with management and employees
• May be exposed to dock operations including freight, forklifts, and other dock equipment. May also be exposed to various trucks, exhaust, fumes, and other related conditions.
• Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers
• Talking and hearing required to communication with and listen to others to share or receive information.
