Manages overall operations, strategic planning, budgeting, quality assurance and administration of activities and personnel that impact research protocols and protocol patients, as well as the development of the assigned staff. Plans, directs, and coordinates, and evaluates clinical management of research protocols and clinical research care systems for a designated area.

Commensurate with experience.

- Bachelor's degree in Nursing and seven (7) years of RN experience related to assigned program or RN with an associate degree and nine (9) years of nursing experience related, plus four (4) years progressive management and research experience.
- Current licensure or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.
- Approved specialty certification preferred (as applicable to assigned program(s)/project(s).
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Manages overall operations, strategic planning, budgeting, quality assurance and administration of activities and personnel that impact research protocols and protocol patients, as well as the development of the assigned staff. Plans, directs, and coordinates, and evaluates clinical management of research protocols and clinical research care systems for a designated area.
JOB DUTIES:
- Designs, implements and manages the research agenda for the area.
- Promotes collaboration between clinicians and research scientists, internal and external to the University.
- Evaluates and supports development of grant opportunities.
- Develops and supervises development of research protocols. May include study design, development of research questions, regulatory and institutional review board (IRB) requirements, evaluation of resource requirements, evaluation of resource requirements and budgeting.
- Manages research protocols. Will give direction and supervision of Research Nurses and staff on protocol related activities. May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
- Coordinates the schedules of research nurses and staff to ensure adequate coverage of protocols.
- Manages on-going strategic plans for the area.
- Manages Human Resources activities or gives direct input for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Provides leadership for the programs(s)/projects(s) and promotes teamwork.
- Actively promotes the professional development of self and others.
