Production Laborer- Melbourne in Melbourne, Kentucky at Prestress Services Industries, LLC

Job Summary : The bed laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at plant. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and is an essential component of the beam making process. The position may assist other workers.

1. Performs any combination of following duties involved in preparing forms and pouring concrete to make prestressed structural beams.
2. Cleans forms, using hammer, scraper, and brush and sprays form with oil to prevent adhesion of concrete.
3. Places reinforcing steel cage in form, using power winch.
4. Pushes stressing cables through form, threads end through guide holes in end plates, and clamps end of cables to plate.
5. Tightens nuts at base of form with power wrench, and inserts spacer bars and locking pins at intervals along top of form to maintain specified dimensions of form.
6. Clamps vibrators in holders on sides of forms.
7. Lays planks on protruding ends of spacer bars to make elevated walkway on both sides of form.
8. Utilizes conveyors and vibrators.
9. Shovels sample of concrete into canisters and tests consistency of concrete, using cone-shaped mold and trowel.
10. Settles concrete at top of form with hand vibrator, and fills low spots with concrete taken from conveyor.
11. Removes forms from cured beams, using hand tools, and cuts protruding end of stressing cable, using oxyacetylene torch.
12. Lifts beam and moves hoist to yarding area by hand or with truck.
13. May prepare forms and cast concrete lintels.
14. Attends all safety meetings to gain a broader understanding of safety issues that will assist in maintaining a safe working environment.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Production Manager, and/or Plant Manager.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and listen. The employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The individual must be able to perform all of these actions while being exposed to inclement weather as this position works outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals which require employee to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/ or humid/ cold conditions, as well as high, precarious places.

Employee will utilize proper PPE as instructed by supervisor, such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, reflective vests and steel toe boots. Additional PPE may be required.
