Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our heavy civil construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for large-scale projects both public and private.

Cost Estimation & Analysis
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine scope of work
- Quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor requirements
- Research and obtain current pricing for materials, equipment rental rates, and subcontractor services
- Calculate direct and indirect costs, overhead, and profit margins
Bid Preparation & Proposal Development
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages and proposals for public and private projects
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure estimate accuracy
- Review and analyze subcontractor quotes and proposals
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project conditions
- Submit completed bids within specified deadlines
Project Analysis & Risk Assessment
- Evaluate project risks including site conditions, weather impacts, and scheduling constraints
- Review contract terms and conditions to identify potential cost impacts
- Analyze historical project data to improve estimating accuracy
- Prepare alternative pricing scenarios and value engineering options
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with project management, operations, and business development teams
- Present estimates and recommendations to senior management
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and equipment vendors
- Participate in post-award project handoff meetings
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
- Experience with infrastructure projects including roadways, utilities, earthwork, and concrete structures
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in software (HCSS HeavyBid, PlanSwift, BlueBeam)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and project management software
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment for heavy civil projects

This position is primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites or pre-bid meetings. The role involves extended periods of sitting, computer use, and reviewing construction documents. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required. Travel required as needed for project reviews or site assessments.
