Job Description

The Clinical Resource Nurse partners with the Director/Nurse Manager to ensure operational readiness of the department in the provision of direct nursing care for antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum, and special care nursery patients. This position has operational oversight responsibilities and participates with the nursing team in care planning and delivery, utilizing the nursing process to provide appropriate comprehensive care, in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Service Department and the OB Department. The Clinical Resource Nurse facilitates communications between all Clough Birthing Center units in collaboration with the Director/ Nurse Manager and serves as mentor and role model for staff.

Job Functions

  • 1. Supports staff evaluations by providing input regarding the quality of care, and alignment with policies, procedures, standards, and regulations and the mission, vision and values of the Maternity Dept.

  • Represents the organization professionally in communication, attire and interaction with others.

  • Establishes and maintains effective communication in all areas of responsibility.
  • Utilizes constructive conflict management strategies, just in time coaching, and goal setting to optimize staff performance, growth, and engagement.
  • Collaborates with the OB Nurse Educators to coordinate competency assessments for existing staff and the training and orientation process of new employees.
  • Participates in the development, monitoring and evaluation of clinical and patient satisfaction initiatives, standards of nursing practice and outcomes of patient care.
  • Participates in quality assurance, data collection and analysis, and improvement initiatives.
  • Engages staff to participate in audit activities, drills, and action plan implementation.
  • Oversees and maintains unit schedules.
  • Projects staffing needs of next day and conducts staffing reconciliation based on acuity and procedure schedule.
  • Responsible for balancing safe staffing needs and fiscal responsibility, while maximizing usage of available resources.
  • Partners with other unit clinical resource nurses to support operations which include weekends and holidays to maintain 24/7-unit coverage.
  • Participates in reviewing and revising policies and procedures specific to the patient population
  • In collaboration with the Director/Nursing Manager, evaluates staff performance based on developed standards.
  • Assumes responsibility with the Director/Nursing Manager for optimal maintenance and utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in hospital committees and programs, as appropriate.
  • Maintains and supports patient’s rights to care, privacy and respect.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Education
      • Bachelor's Degree or higher required.
    • Experience
      • Minimum two years of experience in obstetrical and/or neonatal nursing with demonstrated leadership abilities required. Demonstrated proficiency/ competence in 2 of the 3 areas supported; Labor and Delivery, Postpartum/couplet care, Special Care Nursery. Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
      • Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
    • Licensure and/or Certification
      • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
      • BLS healthcare provider required.
      • ACLS, NRP required.
      • Certification in specialty area strongly preferred or must be obtained within first year of hire.
