About This Position

Technical Support Specialist - In Office

SYSCON International’s PlantStar division is looking for a Technical Support Specialist. The ideal candidate will use practical IT and Software skills and hands-on skills to assist customers with using PlantStar MES software and systems installed in their manufacturing plants. Linux command line, SQL (PostgreSQL and MySQL), Python, Bash scripting and other experience is a must.

The Technical Support Specialist will also assist in the installation and configuration of PlantStar software, implementation of customer specified reports using Python, Bash and similar software, as well as helping to diagnose, repair, assemble and test customer equipment both remotely and in the lab.

Solid reading comprehension, technical skills, good communication and customer relationship skills are a must to facilitate and build solid customer relationships.

Responsibilities:

· Customer technical service and support of SYSCON PlantStar MES software.

· End-user training and orientation.

· System testing and troubleshooting (remote).

· Database queries and report writing using SQL, Python and other similar tools.

· Repair, assembly, and testing of computer equipment.

· Potential for occasional travel to customer sites for field service support.

· Post-installation configuration to suit changing customer requirements.

· Project coordination and thorough documentation of activities.

· Conduct test procedures for calibration and QC of our products.

· Record test procedures and results, defects, repair history, numerical and graphical data

· Be a great team player with experience in working in a team environment. Ability to collaborate closely with a team.

· Other varied duties as assigned.

The following are required to be considered for this position

  • Advanced Linux console experience (No windowing systems are available)
  • Moderate SQL experience
  • Moderate Python experience
  • Bash Scripting (read, modify)
  • Ability to use small tools (screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, etc)
  • Computer assembly / disassembly
  • Good reading and comprehension skills
  • Good communication skills
  • After hours availability for support questions / email on a schedule
  • Ability to work in-office from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday
  • Experience with PLC systems and programming a plus .
  • Basic electronics knowledge and the use of testing equipment necessary.
  • Eagerness to learn a varied base of knowledge.
  • Time management and prioritization skills necessary.
  • Answer off-hours calls on a schedule and provide support.
