POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Applications (DCA), the Clinical Application Specialist (CAS) supports Primary Care (La Casa de Salud, a Federally Qualified Health Center) and Acacia Network Behavioral Health programs by delivering and maintaining effective end-user training for clinical information systems.
The CAS also plays a key role in clinical application management, supporting issue resolution, and system optimization to ensure stable, efficient, and standardized use of clinical systems. Clinical applications include the EMR/EHR platforms (NextGen and AWARDS), as well as other EHR-integrated and standalone clinical applications for day-to-day use. The CAS partners with clinical, operational, quality improvement, and IT teams to enhance adoption, incorporate user feedback, provide user training and drive continuous improvement.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Training and adoption
- Design and deliver role-based training for clinical, administrative, and technical staff on clinical applications and workflows (e.g., EMR/EHR, patient engagement tools, referrals, practice management systems).
- Assess end-user learning needs and tailor training approaches to support effective adoption and reinforce standardized workflows and best practices.
- Develop, maintain, and update training materials to reflect system changes, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend enhancements to improve user competency and system utilization.
- Create clear training resources, job aids, and workflow documentation to support ongoing learning.
Application Management and Support
- Provide frontline support by troubleshooting clinical application issues, coordinating resolution, and escalating to IT or vendors as needed.
- Assist with application configuration, maintenance, and testing of system updates or enhancements prior to release.
- Document recurring issues, training gaps, and enhancement opportunities; share insights with the DCA and relevant stakeholders.
- Support change management processes, including adherence to documentation, governance, and release protocols.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate across departments to align workflows, training, and system functionality with operational needs.
- Participate in improvement initiatives, workgroups, and meetings to support system optimization and user experience.
- Incorporate end-user feedback into training strategies and application improvements.
- Prepare and present information to diverse audiences, including clinical and non-clinical staff.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical applications and healthcare workflows.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the DCA.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in health information management, health informatics, data science, health administration, healthcare management, engineering or related field, preferred.
- Two (2) year's experience working with EMR/EHR applications (NextGen preferred)
- One (1) year experience in Community Health Centers (preferred)
- Knowledge of Ambulatory and Outpatient operational workflows
- Communicate clearly and effectively with end users of varying technical skill levels
- Intermediate understanding of the information technology landscape
- Strong interpersonal communication skills - able to maintain effective relationships across a variety of organizational levels
- Follow established change control, documentation, and governance processes
- A compassionate and trauma-informed care approach to patients is essential
- Ability to travel between clinic and outreach locations across New York State as needed
