Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of services in the maintenance and repair of City buildings.
Note: The current vacancy is designated for our City Hall, Recreation Centers and Library's, however, this position may rotate assignments between City Hall and the Police Department at the discretion of the Division Manager.
Repairs or replaces defective portions of roofs, doors, stucco, windows, furniture, screens, ceramic tiles, water lines, heaters, ventilators, air conditioners, closed water systems, electrical and plumbing fixtures, and humidifiers. Operates direct digital controls and computer controlled energy management system. Maintains and repairs fire, life, and safety systems. Operates a variety of calibration meters. Performs preventative maintenance work on a wide variety of equipment and machinery, including domestic water systems, plumbing, HVAC systems, and door locking devices. Repairs or constructs minor carpentry projects. Changes belts, sheaves, motors, and filters. Refinishes and paints interior and exterior surfaces. Troubleshoots problem areas and determines effective solutions. Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools in accordance with safety practices. Performs other related functions as required.
Three (3) years of work experience in the building trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, or energy management systems) or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge and abilities:
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: materials, equipment, and methods used in the correct and safe maintenance, repair, and operation of commercial buildings, including but not limited to fire, life, safety systems, centrifugal chillers, boilers, evaporator fans, direct digital controls, cafeteria equipment, and electronic pneumatic lock systems.
Ability to: perform skilled maintenance and repairs in the area of work assigned; properly and safely use and maintain common hand tools, small power equipment, and other facility equipment; follow verbal and written instructions; follow all safety environment requirements; maintain professional working relationships with other employees.
SPECIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license.
Must be willing and able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
Formal coursework, training, or certification in commercial HVAC Systems is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Trane, JCI, or Siemens automation systems is highly desirable.

Oral Interview Examination (Tentatively scheduled for June 9, 2026 ): (Weight of 100%) will evaluate the candidates' experience, training, education and abilities in relation to those factors which are essential for successful performance on the job.
Candidates must achieve a passing score in every component of the selection process in order to be placed on the eligible list. The Human Resources Department may waive one or more examination components. When one weighted examination component is waived, the remaining section will receive a weight of 100%.
