Job Description
The Product Support Sales Representative (PSSR) serves as the primary customer-facing contact for parts and service sales, ensuring Caterpillar equipment operates efficiently and reliably. This role focuses on building strong relationships with customers, providing expert maintenance recommendations, and coordinating solutions across internal departments. PSSRs help customers reduce operating costs, improve machine performance, and plan for lifecycle maintenance needs.
Requirements:Knowledge and Skill Requirements
• Strong understanding of heavy equipment, applications, and product lines.
• Ability to perform equipment inspections, including undercarriage measurements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction.
• Sales and negotiation skills to maximize parts and service opportunities.
• Organizational skills for managing a sales territory and tracking customer contacts.
Preferred Qualification(s)
• Background in equipment sales or service within the heavy equipment industry.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar maintenance programs and rebuild options.
• Experience using CRM tools and reporting systems.
Education Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred.
Essential Job Functions
• Proactively call on customers in an assigned territory to sell parts, service, and support solutions.
• Inspect equipment and provide technical data to assist customers with maintenance planning.
• Recommend parts, rebuild options, and performance improvements to reduce operating costs.
• Coordinate with Parts, Service, and Equipment Management teams to fulfill customer needs.
• Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
• Develop strategies to grow parts and service sales within the territory.
Leadership Responsibilities
• None; this is an individual contributor role.
Preferred Experience and Skills
• Several years of experience in heavy equipment sales or service.
• Strong technical aptitude for understanding machine performance and maintenance requirements.
• Ability to build long-term customer relationships and deliver value-added solutions.
Physical and Mental Requirements
• Ability to travel within assigned territory and visit customer sites.
• Frequent standing, walking, and occasional climbing on equipment for inspections.
• Mental focus for planning, problem-solving, and customer engagement.
Work Environment
• Interaction with internal teams and external customers.
• Requires adherence to company safety guidelines and PPE when inspecting equipment.
