Job Description
Reports to the Director of Professional Development/Educational Services. Responsibilities include coordinating the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of orientation, continuing education programs and in-services. Serves as coordinator and education specialist for group of professional development generalists to ensure standardization for all educational activities for nursing across the system. Keeps abreast of the latest theories and developments in nursing, adult learning and education principles.

Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the orientation and continuing education programs by:
- Selecting, training, assigning work, evaluating and, if necessary, recommending the discipline and discharge of subordinate staff.
- Participating in developing short and long-term goals and objectives for assigned areas.
- Developing, recommending, implementing and supporting departmental policies and procedures designed to meet identified goals and objectives.
- Developing and recommending an annual budget for assigned areas, monitoring the budget and analyzing and correcting variances to ensure compliance and provide for attainment of agreed-upon goals and objectives.
- Monitoring and evaluating the outcomes of established training and educational programs; also making changes when necessary, in collaboration with the Director of Educational Services
- Serving as a consultant to various departments in order to assist with the development of educational/training programs as needed.
- Serving as an ANCC Nurse Planner for Beacon Health System continuing education programs for nursing.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Preparing and/or directing the preparation of required records, reports and statistical studies of the various educational activities.
- Participating on appropriate inter- and intra-departmental committees.
- Developing and monitoring the educational standards.
- Maintaining ANPD certification
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing, master's degree preferred. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana is required. Three to five years of progressively responsible experience, which includes instruction, program development is preferred. Certification in Nursing Professional Development is required within 18 months of obtaining the position.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires an in-depth knowledge of adult education philosophies and trends, programs, techniques, tools and equipment, as well as policies, procedures and processes, and standards of practice.
- Demonstrates well-developed leadership skills necessary to plan, develop, direct and evaluate the activities of assigned professional development generalist.
- Demonstrates high level of analytical skills necessary to develop and maintain a complex educational system, prepare reports and studies, analyze training needs, design training programs, etc.
- Demonstrates high level of interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective work relationships and the ability, in a wide variety of situations (negotiating, persuading, counseling, etc.), to conduct effective training programs, including solid public speaking and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, including solid public speaking and presentation skills.
