About the Role:
- Performs a variety of clinical duties to assist care providers in the treatment of patients. Works proactively and in partnership with other staff, contributing to effective operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and chaperone physicians during patient examinations.
- Review patient's charts and medications and make sure all appropriate information is in order prior to physician entering rooms for examination and/or surgical procedures.
- Stock, maintain and prepare surgical supplies and instruments.
- Contact drug company representatives to request samples of various medications that physicians may recommend as part of treatment plan for patients.
- Set up and assist in surgical procedures using sterile techniques.
- Suture removal; maintaining proper function of post-operative drains; dressing changes and provides patients with appropriate instructions for wound care (as instructed by physicians).
- Prepare pathology and cytology specimens and preparation of paperwork with appropriate patient and diagnostic information and forward to appropriate local laboratories for processing.
- Practice sterile techniques and prepare surgical trays for minor surgical procedures and assist in same.
- Autoclaving and preparation of surgical instruments.
- Assess and determine the level of medical need and urgency when scheduling emergency medical office appointments.
- Answer patient's calls and assist with questions regarding medications, postoperative symptoms and providing comfort and support.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: HS Diploma/GED required
- Experience:1-3 years of experience
- Certification/Licensure:American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR, Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Medical Asst preferred
Hours vary, including late days on Monday and Wednesday, potentially until approximately 7:30 pm
