Job Description
The Director of Middle School Youth will lead and grow a vibrant youth ministry for grades 6–8. The Director of Middle School Youth Ministry is charged with providing Faith Formation to middle school age students in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the guidelines of the Diocese of Austin. Middle School Faith Formation includes religious education, service and social events, and spiritual opportunities. The Director of Middle School Youth Ministry works closely with the Directors of High School Youth Ministry and Children’s Faith Formation.
Essential Duties
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Participates in the selection process used for programs and textbooks for the religious education program
- Informs the COO of any announcements related to the certification of religion catechists
- Works with the COO and retreat leaders to plan middle school retreat experiences for students
- Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
- Communicates effectively within the school community and parish staff
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habitsCollaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support planning
- Conferences with others as needed and responds to messages in a timely manner
- Maintains and generates sacramental records for Middle School age group and assists other school leaders with First Communion and Confirmation records
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
- Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
- Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
- Able to manage student behavior
- Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
- Able to work well with others in the school community and parish staff
- Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
- Skill in job appropriate technology
- Skill in critical thinking and planning
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Meets the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED
Experience:
- Two plus years teaching in a middle or high school environment
Certifications and Training:
- Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
Working Conditions
- Required to work some nights and weekends
- Required to manage moderate levels of stress
- Required to work a minimum of a 3 hour school day
- Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions

All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
