About This Position
Primary responsibilities include data creation, editing, documentation and ongoing maintenance of geospatial data to support the GIS enterprise at St. Louis County; as well as cartography, field data collection, and other enterprise GIS support activities.
GIS Technician
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2024. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $25.43 - $35.61 per hour.
GIS Specialist
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2024. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $29.13 - $41.29 per hour.
This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.
GIS Technician
An employee in this class prepares, analyzes and maintains GIS maps, data, and records. Duties include preparing, analyzing, and maintaining GIS products, documents, and data; participating in the development, implementation, and support of applications and web services; providing assistance to GIS users; and assisting with the evaluation and implementation of GIS technology. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
GIS Specialist
An employee in this class applies GIS technology and programming tools to design and support geographical information systems and applications. Duties include consulting with GIS users to determine needs; developing and supporting customized applications, data, web services, and documents to meet user specifications; and participating in the assessment, implementation, and maintenance of GIS technology and techniques. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; midrange vision; depth perception; hear within 20 feet; move about; stand; talk/speak; walk; work with others; and customer/public contact.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GIS Technician (Pass/Fail):
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), geography, computer science, information technology, or related field of study (all degrees must include course work in GIS); OR possession of an Associate’s degree in Geographical Information Systems or closely related field AND two (2) years full-time paid verifiable experience performing GIS related duties.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GIS Specialist (Pass/Fail):
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), geography, computer science, information technology, or related field of study (all degrees must include course work in GIS) and two (2) years full-time paid verifiable direct GIS experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Note: The successful candidates may be considered for appointment to the GIS Technician or GIS Specialist level, contingent on minimum qualifications and department need, at the discretion of the hiring authority. This will be determined at the time a job offer is extended.
RATING SYSTEM:
Supplemental Questions will be 100% of the scoring process:
