About This Position
Position Description: JOB TITLE: Network Administrator
STATUS: Full-Time
REPORTS TO: IT Supervisor
SUMMARY: The Network Administrator is responsible for managing and securing the network infrastructure of multiple clients. This role involves configuring and maintaining firewalls, network devices, and security systems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and protection from potential cyber threats. The Network Administrator must ensure seamless connectivity for clients, handle troubleshooting efficiently, and maintain network security across diverse client environments. This role may travel to client sites to investigate and resolve network related issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary.
- Configure and manage network devices (routers, switches, firewalls) across multiple client sites to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Design, implement, and maintain firewall configurations for various clients to protect their networks from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Utilize network monitoring tools to proactively monitor clients network infrastructure, troubleshoot issues remotely, and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Provide ongoing network support and firewall administration for a variety of clients, ensuring that their infrastructure meets security and performance standards.
- Develop and enforce security policies for clients, implement network segmentation, configure access control lists (ACLs), and ensure proper traffic filtering.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients regarding their network and firewall needs, providing regular updates, reports, and recommendations for improvements.
- Respond promptly to network and security incidents, troubleshoot issues, and implement fixes for affected clients.
- Configure and manage secure VPN connections for client remote access, ensuring reliable connectivity for remote workers.
- Perform regular security audits of client networks, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and preparing documentation for audits, as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client network configurations and diagrams, firewall rules, and incident logs, providing clients with regular performance and security reports.
- Work closely with other team members to provide network and security support across various IT disciplines, contributing to the overall success of managed projects.
- Consistent and thorough documentation of client networks and steps to resolution in our knowledge base and ticketing system
- Work a variety of IT Support and Project tickets, as required
- System documentation maintenance and review in the ticketing system
- Communicate with clients regularly: keep clients updated on incident progress and timelines, notifying them of impending changes or agreed outages
- Travel to clients for on-site troubleshooting, repairs, and/or installation

CRITICAL DEMANDS include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with the team including after hours
- Able to drive to clients for on-site repairs at any time during business hours
- Able to be on call for a 1-week period every 8 weeks (appx)

- Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls, routers, and switches for a variety of clients.
- Strong knowledge of network monitoring tools, such as PRTG or similar.
- Ability to implement security policies, firewalls, and access control systems tailored to client needs.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and ISO27001.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills for handling diverse network issues.
- Strong communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues and solutions to clients in a clear manner.
- Ability to juggle multiple client environments and prioritize tasks effectively.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to network management and security.
- Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills to manage client relationships effectively.
- Willingness to stay up to date with evolving network technologies and security threats.
- Awareness of the latest methods used by hackers and malicious elements to break into systems
- Soft skills, including effective communication with team members and senior management and fast decision-making.
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Previous exposure to Linux and/or Windows Operating Systems, coding languages, and/or Networks
- Outstanding communication skills that go beyond tech talk the ability to translate complex IT matters to those without an IT background
- Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Database applications, and VoIP to assist with troubleshooting network issues
- Must take initiative to learn, understand process/workflow
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or Fortinet NSE are highly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in network and firewall administration, ideally in a managed services environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with firewall technologies (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, SonicWall).
- Expertise in networking fundamentals, including VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), NAT, DHCP, and DNS.
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for network security.
- Experience with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools for proactive issue detection and resolution.
- Experience working in an MSP or handling multi-client environments is a plus.
- Prior help desk experience strongly recommended
