About This Position

Description:

The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor position supervises and coordinates activities of workers responsible for picking the product and preparing it for shipping via carrier services as well as receiving shipments, distributing packages, shipping shipments and the plant-to-plant movements of raw materials and products with the use of the company truck(s). In addition, this position will be responsible for all locations in CT (Guilford and Branford Shipping Center).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises all Connecticut shipping and receiving employees of the department and the company truck drivers. This supervisor is also responsible for their performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Essential Functions:

  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
  • Issue written and oral instructions.
  • Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve the efficiency of workers.
  • Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
  • Interview and hire new employees.
  • Confer with other managers in the plant to ensure coordination of other warehouse activities.
  • Confer with other managers outside of the plant to ensure coordination of other functions such as production, inventory management and quality assurance.
  • Ensure correct shipment of international orders and hazardous material orders.
  • Identify employees’ skills and develop them by coaching and counseling employees on a regular basis.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and provide continual feedback on both positive and negative performance.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Track absenteeism and timekeeping.
  • Perform accident investigations.
  • Managing, evaluating, and reporting on warehouse productivity.
  • Communicating and coordinating with other departments and customers.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Degree in business, management, logistics or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a production environment.
  • 3+ years of experience managing staff, including responsibility for hiring and performance appraisal
  • Willing and able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the role
  • Previous experience as a warehouse supervisor or a similar management position.
  • Strong working knowledge of warehouse operations and management.
  • Time management skills and the ability to delegate.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
