About This Position
|
Job Summary |
This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, problem solving, account resolution and respectful, compassionate and caring patient interactions. Maintains knowledge of managed care contracts, state and federal guidelines, and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains accurate documentation for daily interaction of accounts worked and resolved. Reviews patient balances for accuracy and completeness; obtains missing information. Responsible for accurate collection and posting of all payment, adjustment, discount, and denial information in a timely manner as well as negotiating payment plans over the telephone. Communicates collections of delinquent account problems and issues to manager and makes recommendations regarding remaining balance. Responsible for protecting all health information and following all compliance and behavior policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements |
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
|
Preferred Job Requirements |
- Clerical experience to include customer service, data entry, MS Office, email, telephone, and internet usage.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities |
- Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, providers and other hospital personnel on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
- Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
- Excellent time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
- Developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office, telephone system and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively with an outside collection agency.
- Analytical and basic math skills for determining appropriate reporting.
- High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
- Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions |
- Typical office environment with prolonged sitting and occasional standing and walking.
- Work subject to interruption and occasional high stress levels.
- Works with highly confidential / protected health information.
- Ability to work occasional extended hours, evenings and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.
