Responsibilities
The Fitness Specialist (FS) assists the Community Outreach Department with organizing, implementing and maintaining wellness activities by utilizing their professional knowledge and experience as it relates to their field of expertise. Regularly participates in and promotes wellness programs with concentration on health promotion, independently of others. The FS will regularly enhance knowledge base by staying current in health information service lines in the development of programs specifically designed to meet the needs of the community. The FS will be willing to transport work related materials, in employee’s personal vehicle, to on and off-site locations as needed. Requires the ability to lift 30-50 pounds as needed. Other duties as assigned. The Fitness Specialist reports to the Clinical Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities:
- Displays support for the organizational decisions in communication and actions.
- Demonstrates an openness to and acceptance of changes occurring within the organization.
- Returns emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
- Represents KHN in positive and professional manner at Community Outreach events.
- Maintains communication with the Program Coordinator and / or Clinical Coordinator regarding abnormal client results.
- Maintains communication with the Program Coordinator regarding client safety, equipment transport and event setup and tear down.
- Works regularly, averaging a minimum of 2 shifts/month.
- Reads Department minutes and communications.
- Collects testimonials or service recovery potentials at events.
- Actively promotes Years Ahead program.
Job Requirements
- Minimum EducationAssociate or bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education or related field required.
- If an associate degree only, must additionally have a fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization (like ACSM, NSCA, NASM, etc).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in community health or social work preferred.
- Experience in planning health promotion programs preferred.Required SkillsCPR and first aid required. ACLS and ACSM certification preferred.
- Maintains competencies and skills of specialty areas of practice.
- Excellent organization, presentation and communication skills required.
- Ability to work varied hours with some evenings and weekends.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Computer skills-Microsoft office expected.
- Excellent customer service skills and be able to function in a team-oriented environment. Communicate effectively with patients/family/significant others of varying ages and cultural backgrounds.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in community health or social work preferred.
- Experience in planning health promotion programs preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- CPR and first aid required. ACLS and ACSM certification preferred.
