Job Title: Service Technician
Reports To: Metrology Supervisor
Location: Vernon Hills, IL
Work Type: Onsite
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Position Summary:
The Service Technician will be responsible for mechanical and electrical repair of sample preparation equipment and accessories. This role will also provide service support for internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical laboratory sample preparation equipment according to mechanical drawings and electronic schematics.
- Test and verify that equipment meets specification.
- Perform final quality control evaluation of equipment and document results.
- Generate and complete work orders in computer based MRP system.
- Drive quality and process improvement initiatives
- Provide service support for the entire line of SPEX Sample Prep products
- Respond to technical inquiries from customers and dealers via phone and email
- Prepare technical documentation to assist our customers agents in troubleshooting and repairs
- Create/improve statement of work, other technical procedures and documentation needed in performance of duties.
- Field service and customer visits when required (<10% travel)
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- High School degree or equivalent is required. Associates or trade school degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in electro-mechanical repair/service preferred.
Qualifications:
- Must possess practical knowledge of electronics, mechanics and scientific principles in relation to repair to circuit board level.
- Must be able to read troubleshooting schematics, parts list and wiring diagrams, to resolve technical problems.
- Must possess communication skills to respond to technical questions in writing or orally in a clear, concise manner.
- Must possess math skills to be able to calculate repairs estimates.
- Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to use standard hand tools.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $22-$33/hr, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
