Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Patient Tech III to join our urgent care team. This role integrates responsibilities from Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and Radiologic Technology to support patient care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory functions, and administrative operations in a fast-paced urgent care environment. The ideal candidate must possess strong clinical, technical, and administrative skills to ensure efficient patient throughput, high-quality care, and seamless support for providers. This position requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to respond to urgent and emergent situations effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical & Patient Care Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and imaging by obtaining vital signs, recording medical history, and explaining procedures.
  • Perform triage assessments to evaluate patient acuity and assist in patient flow management.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during medical examinations, minor surgical procedures, wound care, incision & drainage, and orthopedic care (splinting/casting).
  • Administer injections, medications, and vaccines under provider supervision.
  • Educate patients on procedures, treatments, and post-care instructions.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including assisting in cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, or trauma cases, as per clinic protocol.

Phlebotomy, Laboratory & Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy procedures with strict adherence to patient identification and specimen labeling protocols.
  • Conduct EKGs, rapid diagnostic tests (flu, strep, urinalysis, glucose, pregnancy tests), and other CLIA-waived testing procedures.
  • Ensure accurate entry and release of patient orders in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain compliance with bloodborne pathogen protocols and infection control policies.
  • Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions.

Radiologic Technology Duties:

  • Perform radiographic exams with attention to image quality and patient safety.
  • Critique images to maintain quality control and report any equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain radiation safety precautions in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in clerical tasks, including documentation, scheduling, and processing patient records.
  • Float between satellite urgent care locations as needed to provide radiologic and patient care support.

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Accurately document patient history, procedures, and treatments in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Assist with scheduling, billing inquiries, and insurance processing.
  • Manage medical supply inventory to ensure availability of necessary items.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to OSHA and other safety regulations.
  • Assist in training and orienting new employees or students in department functions.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to multitask across clinical, laboratory, and imaging responsibilities.
  • Experience with EHR systems, LIS software, and radiologic imaging systems.
  • Proficiency in orthopedic splinting and wound care is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel between satellite urgent care locations with reliable transportation.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification (AMT, ASCP, NCA, or equivalent) preferred
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist in the State of Kentucky
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS preferred
