This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engineering Manager, Shipping & Logistics based in the United States.
This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing, autonomous engineering team responsible for critical shipping and logistics capabilities.
You will own the domain end-to-end, including carrier integrations, rate shopping, label generation, and the systems that power these experiences.
As part of a close Engineering, Product, and Design partnership, you will shape the roadmap while balancing customer value, technical quality, innovation, and sustainable delivery.
The role combines people leadership with meaningful technical ownership, giving you the opportunity to influence architecture, engineering practices, and team structure.
You will also champion practical AI adoption across planning, triage, and software development, helping your team use emerging tools responsibly and effectively.

- Lead, coach, and develop an autonomous, self-managing, high-performing, and inclusive software engineering team through clear expectations, thoughtful structure, and consistent feedback.
- Own the shipping and logistics domain end-to-end, including carrier integrations, rate shopping, label generation, and supporting systems.
- Set and guide the team's technical direction, backlog priorities, roadmap input, and delivery processes while incorporating perspectives from engineers, stakeholders, and broader business strategy.
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs between new features, technical debt, customer support, innovation, and long-term system sustainability.
- Partner closely with Product and Design as part of the Engineering, Product, and Design leadership group to shape roadmaps, estimate work, prioritize initiatives, and communicate decisions.
- Champion AI adoption across the engineering team, making AI agents a default starting point for project planning, issue triage, and software development.
- Establish appropriate expectations and support for AI adoption while ensuring AI-generated work is reviewed with the same rigor and engineering standards as any other code.
- Hold the team accountable to engineering fundamentals, including test-driven development, SOLID principles, scalable system design, and sustainable delivery practices.
- Inspect and evaluate technical output to maintain high standards for reliability, maintainability, and quality.
- Foster a culture of trust, accountability, visibility, healthy communication, and continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively communicate progress, risks, decisions, and changes in direction.
- Participate in hiring and team-structure decisions while helping create an environment where engineers can grow and perform at their best.
- Champion organizational mission and values through leadership, decision-making, and day-to-day interactions.
- 3+ years of experience managing high-performing, product-focused software engineering teams with a demonstrated record of delivering meaningful business value.
- Recent hands-on experience as a software engineer, with sufficient technical depth to participate in architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and guide scalable system design.
- Experience in SaaS, startup, or e-commerce environments is highly desirable.
- Exposure to shipping, fulfillment, reverse logistics, or complex integrations is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated experience using AI agents as a regular part of engineering workflows, with the ability to explain how AI adoption has improved team or individual output.
- Strong understanding of Agile software development principles, including Scrum, with a track record of delivering quality software through iterative and incremental development.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including test-driven development, SOLID principles, sustainable delivery, and scalable architecture.
- Proven ability to balance competing priorities, manage stakeholder expectations, and make thoughtful technical and product tradeoffs under real-world constraints.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust across engineering, product, design, and business teams.
- Demonstrated ability to create a feedback-rich culture centered on accountability, performance, empathy, and continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership judgment, curiosity, decisiveness, and an action-oriented approach to identifying and addressing challenges early.
- Familiarity with technologies such as PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, MySQL, DynamoDB, Kubernetes, AWS, Jira, Datadog, Snowflake, or comparable technologies is helpful, although the hiring process is technology-stack agnostic.
- Must be based in the United States.
- Base salary: $150,000–$190,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, geographic location, business needs, market conditions, and compensation goals.
