Position Title: Vice President of Finance / Chief Financial Officer

Description

Northwest Kidney Centersis hiring a Vice President of Finance / Chief Financial Officer. This is a full-time role which will be working in SeaTac, WA (local hybrid).

Purpose
The Vice President of Finance/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leads all aspects of Northwest Kidney Centers' (NKC) finance organization and serves as a critical strategic partner to the President & CEO, Board of Trustees, and executive leadership team. The CFO provides enterprise financial leadership across strategy, operations, value-based reimbursement, partnerships, business ventures, enhanced care, and growth and expansion initiatives.

The CFO establishes the financial infrastructure, insights, controls, and capabilities needed to support NKC's mission, long-term sustainability, and future growth. This role delivers decision-ready financial and operational information, shapes capital investment strategy, advances responsible use of AI and automation within finance, and maintains trusted relationships with the Board, lenders, advisors, payers, partners, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelors degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field. A masters degree and/or CPA designation is preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in accounting and finance within a healthcare setting is required.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and significant experience with strategic finance, financial operations, value-based reimbursement, specialty care, competitive markets, partnerships, joint ventures, and complex accounting and revenue cycle environments. Experience must include accounting systems, general ledger, billing, fixed assets, accounts payable and receivable, materials management, revenue cycle management or practice management systems, and patient billing and finance.
  • Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate financial and statistical information clearly. Demonstrated success in operations, change management, Board and Finance/Audit Committee engagement, financial planning and analysis, revenue cycle, billing, internal controls, multiyear forecasting, and cost improvement is essential. Experience managing agreements with commercial payers and Medicare Advantage/Medicare, and partnering successfully with business development and legal counsel, is also essential.
  • Experience leading finance transformation, process automation, data governance, or responsible deployment of AI-enabled tools in a controlled environment is preferred. The successful candidate must be able to establish practical governance and human review mechanisms that preserve financial accuracy, confidentiality, security, compliance, and auditability.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Financial Strategy and Executive Partnership

Lead the finance and accounting organization and serve as NKCs chief financial strategist, translating organizational priorities into financial strategy, operating principles, and disciplined execution.

Partner with the President & CEO and executive leadership team to evaluate strategic initiatives, establish clear financial goals, assess opportunities and risks, and make actionable recommendations on strategy and operations.

Create and articulate a compelling financial vision that supports NKCs mission, long-term sustainability, and growth while balancing the pace of change with organizational capacity.

2. Financial Operations, Accounting, Controls and Compliance

Ensure effective finance and accounting operations, appropriate internal controls, sound financial procedures, and the integrity of financial information.

Oversee timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis for internal, external, and regulatory constituencies.

Oversee the annual audits of NKCs financial statements and benefit plans, required tax filings, tax compliance matters, and all treasury activities.

Maintain advanced oversight of accounting systems and core financial operations, including the general ledger, billing, fixed assets, accounts payable and receivable, materials management, revenue cycle systems, practice management systems, and patient billing and finance.

3. Financial Planning, Data Strategy and Decision Support

Develop and use forward-looking budgets, multiyear forecasts, financial models, activity-based analyses, and cost improvement strategies to provide insight into operations and business plans.

Define the metrics, supporting data, and data strategy needed to plan, monitor, and evaluate execution against operational priorities.

Improve forecast precision and deliver clear, decision-ready insights by linking financial, operational, and statistical information into a compelling business narrative.

Develop tools and systems that efficiently capture, aggregate, analyze, and communicate critical financial and operational information.

4. AI, Automation and Continuous Improvement

Identify, evaluate, pilot, and deploy AI agents and automation across finance workflows in partnership with Information Technology, Compliance, Privacy, Security, Legal, and operational stakeholders, as appropriate.

Own the finance operating model for deployed agents and automations, including workflow and prompt design, system and data access, guardrails, human-in-the-loop review points, escalation paths, documentation, and version control.

Establish governance, monitoring, validation, and performance measures appropriate to a finance environment, with particular attention to financial accuracy, internal controls, data privacy, security, regulatory obligations, and auditability.

Champion continuous improvement across finance processes by standardizing workflows, reducing manual effort, strengthening controls, improving data quality, and increasing the timeliness and usefulness of financial insights.

Assess adoption, effectiveness, risk, and return on investment for AI and automation initiatives and adjust or retire solutions when performance or control expectations are not met.

5. Capital Structure, Investments and Treasury

Provide strategic leadership on future financing plans, evaluate financing alternatives, and maintain an effective overall capital structure.

Lead relationships and financial matters involving bankers and lenders, capital structure advisors, investment advisors, outside counsel, and potential supporters.

Lead management of the investment portfolio and align investment strategy with current and future capital needs.

Represent NKC to the financial community, in partnership with the President & CEO, and support future financing and investor-relations strategies as applicable.

6. Growth, Transactions and Strategic Partnerships

Lead financial analysis and reporting for real estate acquisitions, clinic buildouts, and other growth and expansion initiatives.

Lead financial evaluation of potential not-for-profit affiliations or mergers, investments in research organizations, intellectual property licensing agreements, partnerships, joint ventures, and other strategic opportunities.

Provide financial leadership for value-based reimbursement, specialty care, enhanced care, competitive market strategies, and payer relationships, including commercial payers and Medicare Advantage/Medicare.

Partner effectively with business development, legal counsel, operational leaders, and external advisors in the evaluation, execution, and integration of strategic initiatives.

7. Board, Audit Committee and External Stakeholder Leadership

Report financial results, forecasts, strategic financial matters, and decision-relevant insights to the Board of Trustees.

Report financial, operational, compliance, and control risks and issues to the Finance/Audit Committee and work closely with the committee chair.

Build trusted relationships with Board members, external advisors, community stakeholders, national organizations, university and health system partners, payers, and other strategic partners.

Communicate clearly and persuasively across technical and nontechnical audiences, promoting transparency, sound judgment, and confidence in NKCs financial stewardship.

8. People Leadership and Organizational Capability

Build and sustain a finance team with appropriate resources, capabilities, depth, cross-functional knowledge, and succession readiness.

Attract, recruit, motivate, coach, and develop talent; delegate effectively; support an inclusive team environment; and establish clear expectations and accountability.

Assess team and consultant capabilities, development needs, effectiveness, and resource utilization while managing spend and mitigating risk.

Lead teams through change with agility, resilience, integrity, and a visible commitment to continuous improvement.

The posted pay range reflects the full range for this role. Most candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, with placement based on experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the position.
