The Senior Medical Assistant (MA) provides advanced clinical and administrative support across both medical and behavioral health services. This role includes supervisory oversight of front and back office clinical support staff, including Medical Assistants and front desk personnel, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient clinic operations. The Senior MA serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and float staff member, supporting multiple departments as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care:

• Perform advanced medical assisting duties including vitals, medication administration (including injectables), lab draws, and point-of-care testing
• Support both primary care and behavioral health providers during patient visits
• Assist with coordination of care, including referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-ups
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)

Behavioral Health Integration:

• Support psychiatric providers with medication management workflows (e.g., LAIs, consents, monitoring)
• Monitor and report changes in patient presentation, including mental status and risk concerns
• Assist in crisis response protocols as appropriate within scope

Supervisory & Leadership Duties:

• Provide day-to-day oversight of front and back office staff, including Medical Assistants and front desk team members
• Support coordination between clinical and administrative workflows to ensure seamless patient flow
• Assist with training, onboarding, and competency development of new staff
• Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements across both front and back office operations
• Support scheduling, coverage planning, and delegation of duties
• Serve as a point of escalation for clinical and operational concerns

Float & Operational Support:

• Float between clinic locations or departments as needed to ensure coverage
• Adapt to varying workflows across medical and behavioral health services
• Support both front office (check-in/out, scheduling support) and back office (clinical care) during high-volume periods or staff shortages

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

• Ensure adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies
• Maintain clinic readiness for audits and inspections
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data tracking

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Minimum of 5 years of Medical Assistant experience, including behavioral health and medical settings
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
• Current certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
• BLS/CPR certification required
